About the Role
As a Remote Physical Therapist Case Manager with Optum, you will work closely with healthcare providers, patients, and other stakeholders to determine the medical necessity and clinical appropriateness of treatment plans. You will be responsible for developing and implementing clinical policies, guidelines, and applications that improve healthcare outcomes and reduce costs. Key Responsibilities
- Make determinations of medical necessity and clinical appropriateness of treatment plans, ensuring alignment with industry guidelines and regulatory requirements.
 - Assist in the development and implementation of clinical policies, guidelines, and applications that drive healthcare affordability and quality.
 - Regularly contact healthcare providers to discuss treatment determinations, identify trends, and provide feedback on clinical practices.
 - Apply knowledge of regulatory requirements, industry standards, and clinical best practices to inform case management decisions.
 - Conduct utilization management activities, including prospective, concurrent, and retrospective reviews, to ensure optimal resource allocation.
 - Implement strategies to improve healthcare quality, outcomes, and patient satisfaction, while reducing costs and enhancing the overall care experience.
 - Support various health plan structures, including Fully Insured, Medicare, Medicaid, Workers Compensation, and Auto liability.
 
Essential Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- An active and unrestricted license to practice Physical Therapy in your state of residence.
 - A minimum of 5 years of experience working in an Adult Orthopedic environment, with a strong understanding of clinical practices and industry guidelines.
 - Proficiency in MS Office Suite Tools, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and MS Teams.
 - A strong knowledge of practice guidelines, office procedures, current research, and scope of practice.
 - The ability to interpret guidelines, research, and other data to inform case management decisions.
 - Excellent consultative and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with supervisory, clinical, and non-clinical professionals.
 - A dedicated, distraction-free workspace with access to high-speed internet from home (Broadband cable, Fiber, or DSL).
 
Preferred Qualifications
While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable:
- A minimum of 3 years of clinical experience performing case reviews, with a strong understanding of utilization management principles.
 - Experience working with adult neuro and/or geriatric populations, with a strong knowledge of clinical practices and industry guidelines.
 - Experience in a managed care environment, such as a health plan or medical group.
 - Familiarity with UnitedHealth Group's Telecommuter Policy and ability to adhere to its requirements.
