Job Summary
We are looking for a seasoned Senior Data Engineer with a strong technical background and a passion for designing and building data systems at scale. As a key member of our Product Execution and Instrumentation team, you will contribute to the engineering, design, and development of our data products and pipelines using Scala, Python, and Flash. Your expertise will help us drive business value, improve data quality, and enhance our data-driven decision-making capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable data solutions, building ETL pipelines in big data environments (cloud, on-prem, hybrid)
- Contribute to the engineering, design, and development of data products and pipelines in Scala and Python/Flash while maintaining uptime SLAs
- Implement the Lakehouse architecture, working with key partners to move towards a Lakehouse-driven data platform
- Collaborate with Data Product Managers, Data Architects, and Data Engineers to design, implement, and deliver effective data solutions
- Maintain detailed documentation of your work and changes to support data quality and data governance
- Ensure high operational efficiency and quality of your solutions to meet SLAs and support our clients (Data Science, Data Analytics teams)
- Be an active participant and advocate of agile/scrum practices to ensure safety and process improvements for your team
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, and optimize data processing workflows
- Engage with and understand our clients, forming relationships that enable us to prioritize both innovative new contributions and steady platform upgrades
Requirements and Qualifications
Essential Qualifications:
- Four-year bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Systems, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
- Strong algorithmic problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in SQL and ability to write queries to extract data and build performant datasets
- Hands-on experience with distributed systems, such as Flash and PySpark, to query and process data
- Strong Scala and Python programming skills
- Experience with cloud technologies like AWS (S3, EMR, EC2)
- Familiarity with at least one major MPP or cloud database technology (ideally Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery)
- Strong experience with data integration toolsets (e.g., Windstream) and writing and maintaining data pipelines with Databricks
- Knowledge of data modeling techniques and data warehousing standard approaches and practices
- Familiarity with Scrum and Agile methodologies
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with data engineering tools like Databricks, Snowflake, and Windstream
- Familiarity with Lakehouse architecture and data platform design
- Knowledge of data governance and data quality best practices
- Experience with cloud-based data warehousing and analytics
