About the Role

As a Remote Part-Time Customer Service Specialist at blithequark, you will be the initial point of contact for patients, healthcare facilities, physicians, and clinical staff, facilitating patient healthcare needs through effective communication and exceptional customer service. This role requires a high level of critical thinking, accuracy, and speed in navigating our electronic health record system to validate and capture clinical and financial information.

Key Responsibilities

  • Navigating the electronic health record to obtain and validate historical information, capture and document demographic and financial information, and maintain accurate data entry while ensuring patient privacy and security as per HIPAA guidelines.
  • Managing a high volume of incoming calls from patients, healthcare providers, and facilities, resolving issues related to scheduling appointments, refilling medications, insurance referrals, symptom-based care, pre-certification for testing, insurance and billing questions, and requests for medical forms and test results.
  • Leveraging critical thinking to identify the reason for calls and take appropriate action based on caller need and acuity, researching complex issues, and consulting or escalating to clinical staff when necessary.
  • Scheduling patient visits based on complex provider preferences, verifying and updating insurance, checking insurance eligibility, collecting and documenting demographics, and maintaining proficiency in insurance basics, MyChart, and appointment instructions.
  • Documenting and sending messages to providers and clinical staff in the electronic health record for clinical-based needs and communicating directly with providers to relay pertinent clinical information during after-hours.
  • Achieving targeted performance and customer service standards, including abandoned call rate, average speed of answer, and average transaction time, while providing excellent and consistent customer service in a variety of situations.

Essential Qualifications

To excel in this role, you must possess:

  • A High School Diploma or GED.
  • 2-5 years of experience in customer service or a related field, preferably in healthcare.
  • The ability to type at a minimum speed of 35 wpm with 90% accuracy, as assessed through a typing test.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate in a professional, positive, and respectful manner.
  • Proficiency in navigating electronic health records and other healthcare software.
  • The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner, as this is considered a safety-sensitive position.

Preferred Qualifications

While not mandatory, the following qualifications are highly desirable:

  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting, particularly in a customer-facing role.
  • Familiarity with healthcare operations, including insurance processes and medical terminology.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and deadlines.

Work Environment and Culture

As a part-time remote Customer Service Specialist, you'll enjoy a flexible schedule that allows you to work from the comfort of your own home, within 1 hour of St. Louis, Missouri. Our part-time schedule consists of 28 hours per week, with no weekends or holidays required. You'll be working a varied shift schedule: Monday-Tuesday from 7:30 am to 4 pm and Wednesday-Friday from 9 am to 1 pm.
