About the Role

As a Software Engineer at Southwest Airlines, you will be part of the Technology Division and will have the chance to work with various teams, including Tech Platforms and Engineering, People and Finance, Tech Operations, Ground Operations, and EID. You will be responsible for analyzing, designing, writing program code, testing, documenting, and implementing practically suitable, technically sound, and well-structured application systems according to Client requirements and organizational procedures and standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze, design, write program code, test, document, and implement application systems according to Client requirements and organizational procedures and standards.
  • Answer creation issues and implement quick resolution efforts across technology areas.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize project requirements.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation for application systems.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to the improvement of the overall quality of the codebase.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and trends in software development.

Essential Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Classroom or industry experience with the full software development life cycle.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Java, JavaScript, or C++.
  • Experience with object-oriented programming (OOP) concepts.
  • Knowledge of development methodologies, practices, concepts, technologies, and technical choices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think creatively.

Preferred Qualifications

To stand out from the competition, you should have:

  • Experience with AWS, cloud computing, and DevOps practices.
  • Familiarity with React, JSON, XML, HTML, and CSS.
  • Previous internship or work experience as a Software Engineer within the past year.
  • Participation in programming development clubs or other relevant extracurricular activities.
  • Experience working in an agile development environment.
