About the Role

We are currently seeking an experienced and visionary Advising Manager who will advance the institution's proud tradition of excellence in academics, student life, and community service. As an Advising Manager, you will play a pivotal role in leading the Advising Department, providing guidance and supervision to advising staff, and ensuring that students receive exceptional support and resources to achieve their educational and career goals. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and supervision to the Advising Department, including developing and implementing departmental procedures and guidelines, supervising and training advising staff, and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Advise prospective, new, and returning students of educational opportunities and requirements, providing guidance with educational planning from prospective student through graduation.
  • Assist students with the interpretation of policies and procedures to meet educational and career goals and objectives, and provide career advisement, including requirements for certain career fields and occupational opportunities.
  • Lead the department in establishing and achieving annual goals and objectives, and manage the departmental budget, serving as the signature authority for purchases and advising materials.
  • Provide training opportunities and keep the department abreast of new developments and innovations within the advising profession, and represent the Advising Department at System-wide meetings.
  • Accountable for the success of a caseload of First-Time in College (FTIC) students linked to Student Success Courses, developing strategies to help FTIC students succeed, and tracking student progress and providing reports.
  • Assist with recruitment activities, including arranging on-site College visits for parents and students, pre-enrollment workshops, and new student orientation, and coordinate or oversee University Transfer Fairs and scheduling of University Transfer Representatives.
  • Educate students on the steps necessary to complete certificate and degree program requirements through degree planning, and teach students the skills to self-navigate to degree completion utilizing campus information, student online system, and campus resources.

Essential Qualifications

  • Master's degree required, with a preferred degree in Counseling, Guidance, College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Education, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, or Human Services.
  • 3 years of work experience in an institution of higher education advising setting required, including 2 years of supervisory experience preferably in an institution of higher education.
  • Strong knowledge of higher education principles, practices, and procedures, including academic advising, student development, and retention strategies.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including students, faculty, and staff.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • HCC College Leadership Program preferred.
  • Experience with MS Office Programs, Information Management Systems, and Budget Management.
  • Knowledge of general office procedures, including the use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer, photocopier, file cabinets, and calculator.
