This role is an exceptional opportunity for a professional with a passion for student success and academic advising to make a meaningful impact on the lives of students. As a PATH TO UW ADVISER, you will be part of the Undergraduate Academic Affairs (UAA) team, which is dedicated to shaping, advancing, and stewarding a world-class undergraduate academic experience for students at the University of Washington.

About Undergraduate Academic Affairs (UAA) and UAA Advising

The team works primarily with students who are exploring and undecided or preparing for entrance into a major. UAA Advising is also the primary campus contact for prospective transfer students, working closely with community and technical colleges in Washington State. As a PATH TO UW ADVISER, you will be an integral part of this team, supporting advising and programming related to the Path to UW program, which includes advising Seattle College students interested in transferring to the University of Washington, supporting summer programming for prospective and incoming Seattle Promise students, and assisting Seattle Promise students as they transition into the University of Washington.

Key Responsibilities

Travel to the Seattle Colleges two days a week to advise on-site. Partner with admissions to help prospective students understand the UW admissions process. Guide and support students in making informed choices, developing their academic identities, and crafting successful academic plans.
  • Current UW Student Advising (20%): Advise a diverse population of students, including pre-major students, international students, pre-professional students, and low-scholarship/at-risk students, on academic options, degree requirements, and university policies using multiple advising modalities such as one-on-one, drop-in, and group meetings. Support Advising & Orientation activities for new transfer and incoming freshman students through participation in presentations, workshops, and events for new students and parents. Create and run programming for new and current transfer students.
  • Supporting Programming, Logistics, and Communications (25%): Support the Senior Path to UW Advisor in logistics and program planning for Path to UW events, workshops, and seminars. Manage Path to UW student communications and outreach. Track and monitor student progress and participation and create data reports regarding student participation and progress.
  • Professional Training and Development (5%): Attend on-campus and off-campus workshops, webinars, and seminars, e.g., SafeZone, suicide prevention, NACADA, MyPlan training, advising special populations (veterans, first generation, etc.). Participate in committee work within UAA, with campus partners, or with professional organizations directly related to the position to support their strategic initiatives, mission, and goals.

Essential and Preferred Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) and two years of advising, student counseling, student services, or related experience. Additionally, you should possess excellent organizational and time-management skills, and superlative attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, and to collaborate effectively with people representing diverse perspectives, approaches, and job roles, is also essential.

Preferred qualifications include experience working with diverse student populations, including students considered to be at-risk, low-scholarship, international students, or transfer students. Experience as a UW student or staff member, as well as familiarity with Access, Excel, EARS, and UW SDB, is also desirable. Furthermore, experience working in areas related to career counseling and familiarity with career exploration and job search tools would be an asset.
