Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Special Education Athletic Tutor to join our team at Windham High School. As a Special Education Athletic Tutor, you will play a vital role in supporting students with diverse learning needs, helping them to develop their academic skills, build confidence, and achieve their goals. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist students with their educational needs, both individually and in small groups, to help them learn subject matter and skills that will broaden their learning experiences and contribute to their development.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to identify students' needs and requirements, including IEP goals, and develop strategies to support their learning.
  • Assess students using district assessments and maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required.
  • Utilize computer technology to establish and maintain student data, track progress, and communicate with parents and teachers.
  • Facilitate small group math and/or reading instruction, determined by the Principal and/or teacher, in both pull-out and push-in models.
  • Communicate effectively with parents on the progress of students, providing regular updates and feedback.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, students, and parents to establish and maintain positive relationships and promote a supportive learning environment.
  • Tutor students in designated locations and at designated times, compiling and maintaining learning portfolios and reports as required.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis, providing progress reports and feedback to inform instruction and support student growth.

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor's degree in math, reading, elementary education, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Experience working with young children, particularly those with diverse learning needs.
  • Knowledge of academic areas, including math and reading, and the ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively.
  • Excellent active listening skills, with the ability to work effectively with others, including students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to maintain accurate records and track student progress.
  • Basic computer skills, with the ability to utilize technology to support instruction and communication.

Preferred Qualifications

While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable:

  • Experience working in schools, supporting students experiencing reading and/or learning difficulties.
  • 2 or more years of experience working as an Interventionist, Teacher, or Tutor with children.
  • Bilingualism in Spanish, with the ability to communicate effectively with students and parents from diverse linguistic backgrounds.

  • A strong knowledge of subject matter, with the ability to present clear, complete, and accurate explanations utilizing a variety of instructional techniques and media.
  • Excellent reading comprehension and math comprehension skills, with the ability to facilitate small group instruction and support student learning.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and parents.
  • Organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • A commitment to ongoing learning and professional development, with a willingness to participate in training and coaching to support student growth and achievement.
