Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Teaching Fellow to join our EEI-Online team. As a Teaching Fellow, you will be responsible for teaching and mentoring high school students in our online EEI course, which covers a broad range of engineering topics, including materials science, computer science, civil, mechanical, and chemical engineering. Your primary goal will be to create an engaging and supportive learning environment, encouraging students to explore engineering principles, apply mathematical and scientific concepts to real-world problems, and develop critical thinking skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach and facilitate online sessions, ensuring a high level of student engagement and participation
- Develop and maintain a sense of community among students, promoting collaboration and teamwork
- Assist students with lab experiments, data analysis, and homework assignments, providing timely feedback and guidance
- Monitor discussion boards, respond to student inquiries, and address concerns in a prompt and professional manner
- Collaborate with instructors to develop and implement course materials, ensuring alignment with program goals and objectives
- Participate in pre-course training, online training programs, and ongoing professional development to enhance teaching skills and knowledge
- Ensure child safety protocols are upheld, maintaining a secure and respectful online learning environment
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a high school teacher in a STEM discipline
- Excellent classroom management skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students
- Strong knowledge of Algebra II and Trigonometry, with the ability to apply mathematical concepts to engineering problems
- Familiarity with Canvas or similar Learning Management Systems (LMS)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams
- Experience with Zoom or similar video conferencing software
- Availability to teach from June 26 to July 28, Monday through Friday, with a commitment to participating in pre-course training and ongoing professional development
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, with a strong background in engineering principles and practices
- Experience with online teaching and learning platforms, with the ability to adapt to new technologies and tools
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, instructors, and program staff
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities
