We're seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Senior Donor Coordinator to join our team on a night shift, working remotely from the New York Metro Area.

About the Role

As a Senior Donor Coordinator, you will play a critical role in our Donor Center, working closely with families, hospital personnel, and other stakeholders to facilitate the organ and tissue donation process. You will be responsible for screening, triaging, and referring incoming donor-related telephone calls, as well as providing prompt and efficient processing of incoming and outgoing calls. Your expertise and empathy will help families navigate the donation process during a difficult time, and your clinical skills will ensure that medical suitability is evaluated and donation potential is optimized.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Screening and Triage: Effectively screen and triage incoming donor-related telephone calls, collecting hospital and patient information, evaluating suitability, and documenting extensive medical/social history.
  • Clinical Referral: Immediately direct organ referral calls to the appropriate Clinical Referral Coordinator, ensuring timely and effective communication.
  • Family Interaction: Interact with death and grieving families in a caring and professional manner, offering the opportunity to donate in accordance with LiveOnNY's protocols, and maintaining authorization and approach levels consistent with departmental goals.
  • Coordination and Follow-up: Coordinate all aspects required for donation to occur, including coordinating the recovery process with other participating agencies, placing status follow-up calls to hospital staff on pending tissue referrals, and notifying the Tissue Recovery Team Leader and appropriate staff regarding tissue authorization and donation.
  • Documentation and Quality Assurance: Complete a huddle with Shift Leader/AOD on dashboard activities, make an initial quality assurance check of completed documentation, and assist Donor Coordinators with chart completion.
  • Training and Development: Assist in precepting and offering guidance to new Donor Center staff, attend and participate in required departmental meetings, trainings, and process improvement initiatives, and complete special projects and data requests as needed.

Requirements and Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree: Bachelor's degree in a health-related field or Associate's degree required.
  • Work Experience: 1-3 years of related work experience with families and patients in grief/crisis situations required.
  • Medical Terminology: Strong knowledge of medical terminology and the ability to make sound clinical assessments in crucial situations.
  • Residency: Must reside in the New York Metro Area.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Clinical Experience: Experience working in a clinical setting, preferably in organ and tissue donation.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with families, hospital personnel, and other stakeholders.
  • EMR Access: Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMRs) and ability to access and evaluate medical information remotely.
