About In‑Flight Crew Connections – Pioneering the Future of Aerial Data

In‑Flight Crew Connections is a fast‑growing leader in the unmanned aerial systems (UAS) industry, delivering high‑precision aerial data solutions to Fortune 500 clients, government agencies, and critical infrastructure operators. Our mission is to enable smarter decision‑making through cutting‑edge aerial mapping, LiDAR, photogrammetry, and multispectral data. By blending innovative technology with rigorous safety standards, we make complex data collection missions possible—every day, across the United States.

Based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, we operate a dynamic, cross‑functional team of pilots, engineers, data analysts, and project managers who share a passion for flight, data accuracy, and client success. As we expand our service footprint, we are looking for a motivated individual who can turn raw sensor data into actionable intelligence while upholding the highest safety and quality standards.

Role Overview – Full‑Time UAS Pilot & LiDAR Technician

We are urgently hiring a UAS Pilot & LiDAR Technician to join our growing data acquisition crew. This role is a unique blend of flight operations, sensor integration, data processing, and equipment maintenance. The successful candidate will be based in Baton Rouge (within a one‑hour commute) and will travel to client sites up to 25 % of the time, executing safe and efficient aerial missions for a Fortune 500 client. This position offers a competitive salary, a comprehensive benefits suite, and a clear pathway to becoming a direct‑hire employee of our client organization.

Key Responsibilities – What You’ll Do Every Day

  • Mission Planning & Execution: Develop detailed flight plans using industry‑standard software (e.g., Intel Mission Control, Mission Planner, GS Pro, Litchi). Ensure compliance with FAA Part 107 regulations, assess weather conditions, and define optimal flight paths for data capture.
  • Sensor Integration & Maintenance: Install, calibrate, and perform routine inspections on LiDAR units, thermal cameras, multispectral sensors, and high‑resolution photogrammetry payloads. Keep all equipment charged, documented, and safely packed for field deployment.
  • Field Operations: Travel to client sites (average 25 % travel) and conduct UAV flights, adhering to safety protocols and client‑specific requirements. Manage on‑site logistics, set up ground stations, and oversee real‑time data acquisition.
  • Data Management: Off‑load sensor data immediately after each flight, maintain accurate logs, and apply proper naming conventions. Conduct initial quality checks and organize data for downstream processing.
  • Post‑Processing & Documentation: Use Pix4D, Agisoft Photoscan, and related software to generate point clouds, orthomosaics, and elevation models. Compile comprehensive mission reports, including GSD calculations, GCP placement, and any anomalies encountered.
  • Equipment Stewardship: Maintain an inventory of UAVs, batteries, sensors, and accessories. Perform preventative maintenance on airframes (fixed‑wing, VTOL, multirotor) and flight controllers, documenting service records.
  • Collaboration & Continuous Improvement: Work closely with data analysts, project managers, and client stakeholders to refine flight strategies, incorporate new sensor technologies, and improve overall data quality.

Essential Qualifications – What We Require

  • Valid FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate (or ability to obtain within 90 days).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) and ability to interpret technical flight manuals, charts, and diagrams.
  • Hands‑on experience with multiple UAV platforms (fixed‑wing, VTOL, multirotor) and flight controller systems.
  • Proficiency in mission planning software (Intel Mission Control, Mission Planner, GS Pro, Litchi, UGCS, or equivalents).
  • Practical experience with LiDAR, thermal, photogrammetry, multispectral, or hyperspectral sensors.
  • Strong understanding of surveying fundamentals: ground sampling distance (GSD), ground control points (GCPs), GPS/Inertial navigation, datum concepts (ellipsoids, geoids), and map projections.
  • Advanced computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite (Excel), spreadsheet management, and data processing tools (Pix4D, Agisoft Photoscan, RTKLib, Adobe Creative Cloud).
  • Ability to work in diverse weather conditions and temperatures, maintaining equipment functionality and personal safety.
  • Residence within a one‑hour driving radius of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Preferred Experience & Skills – What Will Set You Apart

  • Professional background in aerial surveying, construction, oil & gas, utilities, or environmental monitoring.
  • Experience operating UAVs equipped with high‑resolution DSLR or medium‑format cameras, including lens selection and exposure settings.
  • Familiarity with RTK/PPK GNSS workflows and ability to integrate real‑time corrections into flight plans.
  • Video production or photography/videography editing experience using Adobe Premiere Pro, Lightroom, or Photoshop.
  • Exposure to industrial or plant environments where safety protocols and equipment handling are critical.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, prioritize tasks, and stay within budget and schedule constraints.
  • Strong analytical skills for interpreting technical instructions, mathematical data, and abstract diagrams.

Soft Skills – The Personal Attributes That Fuel Success

  • Clear Communication: Articulate technical information to non‑technical stakeholders and produce concise written reports.
  • Team Collaboration: Thrive in both independent and group settings, contributing ideas and supporting peers.
  • Solution‑Oriented Mindset: Approach challenges with creativity, offering proactive fixes and process enhancements.
  • Self‑Motivation: Take initiative, manage time effectively, and drive tasks to completion without constant supervision.
  • Safety First: Prioritize risk assessment, adhere to SOPs, and protect both personnel and costly equipment.
  • Detail‑Oriented: Maintain meticulous documentation, perform thorough equipment checks, and ensure data integrity.
  • Adaptability & Curiosity: Embrace new sensor technologies, software updates, and emerging industry standards.
