Key Responsibilities – Shaping the Future of Claims Architecture

The Senior Domain Architect will act as the strategic steward for the claims domain, ensuring that our technical landscape aligns with business objectives and regulatory requirements. Core duties include:

  • Enterprise‑Level Diagramming: Create, maintain, and evolve hybrid architecture diagrams (current state, future state, and transition) across all domains, ensuring they accurately reflect technology, data, and process flows.
  • Vendor & Application Landscape Management: Track and assess all third‑party solutions, platforms, and services that support claims processing, providing continuous updates to the architecture repository.
  • IT Scoping & Impact Analysis: Evaluate new initiatives, assess system dependencies, and identify potential conflicts or overlaps with existing projects.
  • Project Collision Identification: Proactively detect and resolve project interdependencies to prevent resource contention and timeline delays.
  • Vendor Capability Assessments: Conduct thorough analyses of vendor roadmaps, technical capabilities, and alignment with Sentara’s strategic goals.
  • Strategic Road‑Map Consultation: Partner with senior leadership to shape health‑plan technology road‑maps, ensuring they address emerging market trends and regulatory changes.
  • Gap Identification & Mitigation: Pinpoint deficiencies between current capabilities and future aspirations; develop remediation plans with clear timelines.
  • Conceptual Design of Future State Infrastructure: Produce high‑level designs for next‑generation platforms, including cloud migration strategies, micro‑services architectures, and data lake integrations.
  • Effort Estimation & “T‑Shirt” Sizing: Collaborate with IT Scale‑Ops to provide accurate Level‑of‑Effort (LOE) estimates on High‑Level Business Requirements (HLBRs).
  • ROM Calculations for Project Requests: Perform comprehensive IT assessments to feed Business Resource Management System (BRMS) with realistic Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) figures for both on‑cycle and off‑cycle initiatives.
  • Escalation Point of Contact (POC): Serve as the primary technical liaison for escalated claims‑related incidents, driving rapid resolution and root‑cause analysis.
  • Support Project Management: Aid PMs with issue resolution, corrective action tracking, and documentation of lessons learned.
  • Domain Function Ownership: Maintain an up‑to‑date inventory of domain functions and sub‑functions, ensuring clear accountability across teams.
  • Critical Path Mapping: Develop and refine critical path diagrams that highlight dependencies, milestones, and risk drivers for major initiatives.
  • Rationalization of Deliverables: Align work‑stream deliverables with strategic objectives, removing duplication and optimizing resource allocation.

  • Claims Architecture Expertise: Demonstrated experience as a claims architect, including deep knowledge of claims processing platforms (e.g., QNXT, Facets, Epic), data flows, and regulatory mandates such as HIPAA and CMS regulations.
  • Technical Breadth: Proficiency with data‑center, cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and emerging technologies like AI/ML, IoT, and blockchain as they pertain to health‑care infrastructure.
