Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership in Tax Compliance: Review and approve tax returns prepared by staff, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Complex Return Preparation: Independently prepare and file intricate corporate, partnership, S‑corporation, and high‑net‑worth individual returns, as well as specialized trust and amended returns.
  • Technical Research & Judgment: Conduct supervised technical research on challenging tax issues, formulate alternative solutions, and document findings for internal and client use.
  • Audit & Notice Response: Lead the response to IRS and state tax notices, coordinate with tax staff to draft thorough and technically sound replies.
  • Review & Supervision: Evaluate tax working papers, letters, and supporting documentation drafted by junior staff, providing constructive feedback and ensuring adherence to firm standards.
  • Client Relationship Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned engagements, nurturing relationships through regular business meetings, strategic discussions, and social engagements.
  • Business Development Support: Identify opportunities to cross‑sell additional firm services, collaborate with senior management to propose value‑added solutions, and contribute to the firm’s growth initiatives.
  • Mentorship & Training: Guide junior tax professionals, share best practices, and participate in the firm’s formal coaching and mentoring programs.
  • Regulatory & Policy Updates: Stay current on evolving tax legislation, regulatory changes, and industry trends; disseminate critical updates throughout the practice.
  • Process Improvement: Champion initiatives that enhance workflow efficiency, improve accuracy, and leverage technology (e.g., tax software, data analytics tools).

Essential Qualifications

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Professional Credential: Active CPA license or CPA candidate status with a clear path to licensure.
  • Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of public accounting experience focused on federal and state tax compliance, with a demonstrated track record of handling complex corporate and individual returns.
  • Industry Exposure: Direct experience serving clients in manufacturing, professional services, real estate, not‑for‑profit (NFP), and high‑net‑worth individual (HNWI) sectors.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong command of tax software platforms (e.g., CCH Axcess, Thomson Reuters UltraTax, ProSeries) and Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel.
  • Analytical Acumen: Ability to interpret tax statutes, court rulings, and regulatory guidance, translating them into practical client solutions.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication; capable of drafting clear, concise, and technically accurate client correspondence.
  • Team Orientation: Proven ability to collaborate effectively in hybrid environments, leveraging both in‑person and virtual tools (e.g., Microsoft Teams, SharePoint).

Preferred Qualifications & Additional Assets

  • Advanced degree (e.g., Master’s in Taxation, JD/MBA) or additional certifications such as EA (Enrolled Agent) or CMA.
  • Experience with international tax matters, including FATCA, FBAR, or transfer pricing.
  • Demonstrated involvement in professional organizations (e.g., AICPA, state CPA societies) or contribution to industry publications.
  • Familiarity with emerging tax technology solutions, such as cloud‑based platforms, AI‑driven data analytics, or robotic process automation (RPA).
