Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and passionate High School Foreign Language Teacher - Spanish Educator to join our team at Horry County Schools. Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and Deliver Instructional Activities: Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that cater to the diverse learning needs of your students. Use a variety of instructional strategies to promote active learning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Establish Clear Objectives and Expectations: Clearly communicate learning objectives, expectations, and classroom rules to students, parents, and colleagues. Ensure that students understand the importance of academic achievement and the value of hard work and perseverance.
  • Assess and Evaluate Student Progress: Regularly assess student learning through formative and summative evaluations. Use data-driven insights to inform instruction and make data-driven decisions to improve student outcomes.
  • Provide Feedback and Support: Offer constructive feedback and guidance to students to help them overcome challenges and achieve their academic goals. Foster a growth mindset and encourage students to take ownership of their learning.
  • Communicate with Parents and Colleagues: Maintain open and effective communication with parents, guardians, and colleagues to ensure that students receive the support they need to succeed. Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement school-wide initiatives and programs.
  • Participate in Professional Development: Stay current with best practices in teaching and learning by participating in professional development opportunities, attending workshops and conferences, and engaging in peer mentoring and coaching.
  • Manage Classroom Environment: Create a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment that promotes social, emotional, and academic growth. Manage classroom behavior and maintain a positive and productive learning atmosphere.

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following essential qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Higher: A bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university is required. A master's degree or higher in a related field is preferred.
  • Spanish Certification: Certification as a Spanish teacher in the state of South Carolina is required. A valid teaching certification or license is also required.
  • Teaching Experience: A minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in a high school setting is preferred. Experience teaching Spanish language and culture is highly desirable.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential for success in this role. You must be able to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues, and build strong relationships with stakeholders.
  • Organizational and Time Management Skills: Strong organizational and time management skills are required to plan and deliver instruction, manage classroom behavior, and meet deadlines.
  • Adaptability and Flexibility: The ability to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities is essential in this role. You must be flexible and able to adjust your teaching strategies and approaches as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the essential qualifications, the following preferred qualifications would be an asset:

  • Master's Degree or Higher: A master's degree or higher in a related field is preferred.
  • Experience with Technology Integration: Experience integrating technology into the classroom to enhance teaching and learning is highly desirable.
  • Experience with Differentiated Instruction: Experience with differentiated instruction and assessment is preferred.
  • Experience with English Language Learners (ELLs): Experience teaching ELLs and developing culturally responsive teaching practices is highly desirable.
