Job Summary

We're seeking an experienced Virtual Reality 3D Modeler to join our team in support of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) with 3D Modeling and Virtual Reality (VR) of Air Traffic Control Tower (ATCT) siting projects. As a key member of our team, you'll be responsible for creating accurate three-dimensional (3D) designed FAA facilities based on real site conditions, basic engineering concepts, or from existing AutoCAD drawings. You'll also be responsible for optimizing those models for real-time VR applications using a range of software tools, including Unreal, Adobe Illustrator, ArcGIS Pro, Global Mapper, Autodesk AutoCAD, Infraworks, and Maya.

Key Responsibilities

  • Generate 3D VR models for FAA and Non-Federal towers within the programs specified requirements.
  • Collaborate with the 3D modeler and VR developer teams guiding best practices for real-time 3D model asset optimization, promoting efficient workflows, and offering innovative tech solutions to maintain quality while maximizing performance.
  • Experience with compiling and editing geographic data from a variety of sources, including satellite imagery, terrain data, point cloud data, lidar data, and aerial photographs utilizing ArcGIS Pro and Autodesk Infraworks.
  • Familiar with 3D modeling, texturing, and UV mapping using Autodesk Maya for seamless export into Unreal.
  • Familiar with optimizing CAD and BIM formats for use in VR applications.
  • Familiar with all aspects of the Unreal engine.
  • Experience with 3D scanning, photogrammetry, and point cloud optimization for VR utilizing Reality Capture software.
  • Experience maximizing performance in VR.
  • Willing to learn new software applications.
  • Desire to teach others and learn new techniques.
  • Provide minor on-site technical support for VISTA tower siting studies, including Audio/Video troubleshooting, cabling, and conference sharing software platforms.
  • Assemble/disassemble VR/AR equipment, including VR equipment set up and shut down.
  • Provide technical support on-site and remotely as needed.
  • Support development of standard 3D Cab model formats (i.e., templates) for use across the siting team platform to ensure consistency.
  • Proactively identify areas that need to be improved based upon Siting meeting activities policy changes.
  • Support program-specific standards and processes related to the development of 3D models.
  • Ability to write clear technical instruction documents for customer use.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • Ability to use Autodesk Maya, AutoCAD, and Infraworks 3D modeling software.
  • Familiarity with processing photogrammetry, lidar, and point cloud data using Reality Capture software.
  • Proficiency with ArcGIS Pro and Global Mapper software.
  • Experience using Cesium Ion and the Cesium for Unreal plugin.
  • Familiarity with the Adobe CC suite of software applications, including Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Experience with 3D scanning techniques.
  • Proficiency using Google Earth Pro.
  • Familiarity reading engineering drawings and interpreting airport layout plans and diagrams.
  • Experience with FAA Air Traffic Control Tower cabs.
  • Familiarity solving non-complex network connectivity issues.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of prior relevant experience OR a Master's with 6+ years of prior relevant experience. Additional years of relevant experience may be considered and/or accepted in lieu of degree.
  • Demonstrated project management skills; the ability to manage several complex projects simultaneously in order to meet customer requirements and deadlines (i.e., manage time, prioritize tasks, coordinate resources).
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust Security Clearance Suitability (To be eligible for Public Trust Security Clearance, one must be either a U.S. Citizen OR a U.S. Permanent Resident/Green Card holder OR working in the USA with a temporary protected status (TPS) visa who has resided in the U.S.A for the past 3 years of the past 5 years consecutively with No breaks OR leaving the country. One must be able to show documentation of proof once asked by security or the FAA).
  • Position requires approximately 10% travel.
