Job Overview

We are seeking an accomplished Senior Data Engineer to join our Partner Digital Experience (ADE) association, which builds world-class applications and experiences for Walmart associates. As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be part of the Central Engineering Excellence team, driving data engineering across the Partner Digital Experience organization. Your expertise will be instrumental in leading efforts to build and maintain a large-scale data framework from a wide variety of products and applications data across the Partner Digital Experience association.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze complex data elements, systems, data flows, conditions, and relationships to contribute to practical, logical, and physical data models.
  • Understand products and data stored in databases, logs, audit events, etc., to create data mappings that can be used in analysis to fulfill organizational requirements and inform decision-making.
  • Examine data-related system integration challenges and propose solutions.
  • Develop data APIs to support analysis and data science products.
  • Perform initial data quality checks on ingested data.
  • Develop the logical data model and physical data models, including data warehousing.
  • Define social tables, primary and foreign keys, and stored procedures to create a data model structure.
  • Create and maintain data diagrams, dictionaries, and metadata.
  • Write code to extract data from various systems.
  • Design data pipelines in Google Cloud Platform, adhering to security standards and privacy policies.

Leadership and Collaboration

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will lead and participate in medium-to-large-scale data projects by reviewing project requirements, translating requirements into technical solutions, gathering requested information, writing and developing code, delivering status and issues to colleagues and stakeholders, collaborating with project teams and cross-functional groups, troubleshooting open issues and bug-fixes, ensuring on-time delivery and hand-offs, interacting with project managers to provide feedback on project plans, and providing guidance to the project team.

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Proven hands-on experience with SQL and query optimization.
  • Proficiency in Scala or Python.
  • Experience working with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), BigQuery, and Dataproc.
  • Experience working with large datasets and big data applications.
  • Adaptability to handle multiple tasks and support ADE teams in addressing complex technical challenges.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to influence product leadership and guide engineers locally.

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience with data warehousing, ETL, and data pipeline development.
  • Knowledge of data governance, data quality, and data security principles.
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment.
  • Certifications in data engineering, cloud computing, or related fields.
