Job Summary

The Director, State and Local Tax will be responsible for managing state and local income tax return preparation, accounting, and controversy, as well as indirect tax functions, including sales and use taxes, personal property tax, and business licenses. You will provide support for annual report footnotes, lead state and local income and indirect tax audits, and develop and implement state and local tax planning strategies. With a strong understanding of ASC 740 and US Federal and state corporate income tax rules, you will be able to navigate complex tax legislation, regulations, and case law, and evaluate their effect on our company's effective tax rate and tax balance sheet.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage state and local income tax return preparation process, including separate state, combined, consolidated, consolidated nexus, and city returns in all 50 states
  • Manage state and local income tax accounting, including preparation and/or review of quarterly and yearly income tax provisions and SALT-related tax balance sheet accounts, and maintaining state and local FIN48 Reserves
  • Provide support for annual report footnote from a state and local perspective
  • Direct indirect tax function, which includes filing sales & use taxes, personal property tax, business licenses, and miscellaneous local taxes in all 50 states, hundreds of inferior political subdivisions, and Puerto Rico
  • Manage unclaimed property reporting, federal wage credits, and other state and local credits
  • Lead state and local income and indirect tax audits and related controversy
  • Develop and implement state and local tax planning strategies with the VP – Tax
  • Monitor changes in tax legislation, regulations, and case law, and evaluate their effect on our company's effective tax rate and tax balance sheet

Qualifications and Skills

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • A CPA and/or MST or MBA preferred
  • 5-8 years of public accounting and/or industry experience
  • A strong understanding of ASC 740 and US Federal and state corporate income tax rules
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently to meet tight deadlines
  • Strong computer skills, preferably including:
    • Office 365, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Power BI
    • Alteryx (or similar)
    • OneSource Tax Income Accounting (or similar)
    • Corptax Income Tax Compliance (or similar)
    • PeopleSoft General Ledger (or similar)

Compensation, Perks, and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary range of $185,000 - $200,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. In addition to your salary, you will be eligible for short-term incentives that align with individual and company performance. Our comprehensive benefits package includes:
