Artech Information Systems, the #1 largest women-owned IT staffing firm in the US, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Linux System Administrator to join our team on a 100% remote basis, with occasional on-site work in Herndon, VA. Our client, a leading player in the Defense Mission and Health Solutions Sector, requires a talented professional to support the migration of their on-premises services to the AWS Cloud platform and provide operations support. As a key member of the team, you will work closely with the DoD customer to prioritize functionality, structure sprints, and deliver rapid iterations.

Job Summary

We are looking for a Cloud System Administrator/System Engineer with a strong background in Linux systems administration, cloud migration, and DevSecOps. The successful candidate will maintain the smooth operation of multi-user computer systems, migrate DTS computing environments and workloads into the AWS GovCloud environment, and provide 24x7x365 system administration support. Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain smooth operation of multi-user computer systems in accordance with customer's security policies and directives
  • Migrate DTS computing environments and workloads into AWS GovCloud environment
  • Work with other teams and stakeholders to determine cloud migration requirements
  • Provide 24x7x365 System Administration support, including virtualization, security remediation, troubleshooting, and patching
  • Provide rotational on-call support (in addition to day-to-day tasks)
  • Support DevSecOps environment
  • Perform tasks such as setting up administrator and service accounts, maintaining system documentation, tuning system performance, and managing backups and replication
  • Support planning, deployment, maintenance, and enhancement of system baseline configurations and security posture through administrative, preventive, detective, and reactive controls
  • Utilize expertise to propose solutions to management to ensure all system requirements are based on future needs and current usage, configuring such solutions to optimize cost savings
  • Prepare or ensure that appropriate system documentation exists, including operational instructions
  • Ensure Work Tickets are worked in a timely manner, completed/implemented successfully, and updated appropriately

Essential Qualifications

  • BS degree with 2-4 years of experience, MS degree with 0-2 years of experience, or HS diploma with 8-10 years of experience
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • MUST have an active/current background investigation for a Privileged T5 position (does not need a clearance)
  • Must have all required certifications (and current/active)
  • Two (2) or more years of hands-on Systems Administration experience with Linux systems
  • CERTIFICATION REQUIRED (Must have one of each of the following in each grouping)
  • GROUP 1: Production Operations Computing Environment - Must have at least one of the following:
    • Red Hat Certified System Administrator/Engineer (RHCSA or RHCE) (Preferred)
    • CompTIA Linux+
    • Linux LPIC-1 or LPIC-2 certification
  • GROUP 2: IAT-II CERTIFICATION REQUIRED (Production Operations) for Security Compliance - Must have at least one of the following:
    • Security+ CE (Preferred)
    • CCNA Security
    • CySA+ **
    • GICSP
    • GSEC
    • CND
    • SSCP

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience configuring RedHat Linux operating systems and performing problem resolution
  • Experience with Unix/Linux monitoring tools
  • Experience installing a variety of applications on Linux/Unix platforms
  • Experience with installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Apache, Tomcat, and Java applications software
  • Experience with Linux operating system and Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs)
  • Demonstrates ability to perform Hardware / OS performance analysis and tuning, enhancements and corrective actions
  • Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible
  • Experience working with CI/CD pipelines
  • Knowledge of Subversion/JIRA (on UNIX/Linux) and writing shell scripts in languages such as Perl and SHELL
  • Experience with backup tools (Networker) and Quantum Tape Library
  • Experience with imaging Windows workstation (laptop) for Offnet support
