About the Role

As a Remote Facilities Engineer at American Express, you will play a critical role in the design, implementation, and maintenance of our data center infrastructure. You will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our facilities, including the management of building management systems, EPMS and BCMS applications, PLC controls, and network equipment. Your expertise will be essential in troubleshooting, performance testing, and system configuration, as well as long-term planning for all facility infrastructure and systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implementation and deployment of surveillance and advanced forensic analysis, troubleshooting, performance testing, system configuration, and long-term planning for all facility infrastructure and systems
  • Support, maintenance, and improvement of building management systems, EPMS and BCMS applications, PLC controls, building automation and control, network equipment, fire alarm, power supply systems, lighting control, and computer room ventilation equipment
  • Monitoring and onboarding of third-party vendors, including support for calibration programs for critical data center tools and inventory/asset management systems
  • Development, maintenance, and improvement of detailed installation procedures and preventative maintenance, operational training programs, and assessment criteria
  • Investigation of failure trends and factors, including root cause analysis, risk assessments, and remediation plans
  • Use of sophisticated data collection, monitoring, and logging equipment for data analysis, making timely and effective decisions, and presenting conclusions and suggestions to management
  • Installation, termination, and routing of equipment and wiring, working near hazardous electrical voltages and without interfering with adjacent business-critical systems
  • Providing 24/7 emergency response support on a rotating basis, as needed or required
  • Ensuring active management involvement and commitment in coordinating, assigning tasks, and/or prioritizing/requesting on-site support
  • Proactively informing DCI management of data center availability and assisting managers in the design, implementation, and monitoring of compliance with policies, standards, and procedures
  • Managing internal resources and suppliers by filling and monitoring workflow queues, and training and/or mentoring technicians and colleagues in relevant skills to support succession planning and skills development

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a strong educational foundation, combined with relevant experience in data center operations and management. The minimum qualifications for this role include:

  • High School or AAS degree in a relevant field, such as electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline
  • At least 1+ year of experience with the following systems: generator sets, parallel switchgear, centrifugal chillers, chillers, mechanical and hydraulic HVAC systems, UPS and battery systems, and complex electrical distribution systems

Preferred Qualifications

While the minimum qualifications will get you started, we're looking for candidates who can bring more to the table. If you have any of the following preferred qualifications, you'll be an even stronger candidate:

  • A degree in a relevant field, such as electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline
  • Multiple years of experience in data center operations and management, including experience with building management systems, EPMS and BCMS applications, PLC controls, and network equipment
  • Experience with data analysis, including the use of sophisticated data collection, monitoring, and logging equipment
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to investigate failure trends and factors, and develop remediation plans
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to present conclusions and suggestions to management, and train and/or mentor technicians and colleagues
