**About the Role**
As an Experienced Attorney II - Insurance Defense Litigation Specialist, you'll play a critical role in defending lawsuits filed in Virginia courts and other first-party insurance defense matters. You'll be part of our GEICO Staff Counsel team, working closely with our Claims Department to provide expert legal advice and representation. Your strong analytical and communication skills will enable you to research laws, prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda, and render opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department.
**Key Responsibilities**
* Researching laws and preparing legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda
* Rendering opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department
* Preparing and handling pleadings, motions, and discovery, to include depositions/examinations before trial and examinations under oath, and defending by trial or dispositive hearing, all matters assigned, as applicable
* Collaborating with the Claims Department to provide expert legal advice and representation
* Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of all cases and matters assigned
* Participating in training and professional development programs to stay current with industry developments and best practices
**Essential Qualifications**
* Minimum 3 years of experience practicing law, preferably in civil litigation or insurance defense-related litigation
* Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
* Admission to the Virginia Bar and licensure in good standing to practice law in Virginia
* Ability to travel as required, including but not limited to, attending trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document files in a clear, concise, and professional manner
* Ability to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts or facilitate conflict resolution, and have strong organization/priority setting and multi-tasking skills
* Ability to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information
**Preferred Qualifications**
* Civil litigation experience, preferably in insurance defense-related litigation
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and strategically
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, clients, and external stakeholders
* Experience with electronic discovery and document management systems
* Familiarity with industry-specific software and technology, such as case management systems and document review tools
