Co‑Founder & Lead Robotics Technician – Remote Part‑Time Role with Equity in Cutting‑Edge Humanoid Robot Service Startup
Welcome to the Future of Home & Business Robotics
Rob Reliance (website coming soon) is on the brink of a revolutionary transformation. As humanoid robots transition from laboratory prototypes to everyday companions in homes, offices, and retail spaces, a whole new ecosystem of maintenance, repair, and certification services is emerging. We are building that ecosystem today.
Our mission is simple yet ambitious: create the nation’s most reliable, scalable, and trusted platform for maintaining and repairing humanoid and small service robots. As a pre‑revenue startup, we are positioned at the very beginning of a market that analysts predict will grow into a multi‑billion‑dollar industry within the next decade. By joining us now, you will help shape the standards, processes, and culture that will define robot service for years to come.
Why This Role Is a Game‑Changer
- Early‑Stage Impact: Your decisions will directly influence product design, service delivery, and the overall business model.
- Equity‑Based Rewards: Gain a meaningful ownership stake through a five‑year vesting schedule (one‑year cliff), aligning your success with the company’s growth.
- Flexibility: This part‑time, remote position is ideal for professionals who have existing commitments but want to invest their expertise in a high‑growth venture.
- Founding Team Experience: Work side‑by‑side with visionary founders, investors, and early adopters to bring a brand new market to life.
- Industry Visibility: As the “go‑to” service provider for humanoid robots, you’ll interact with leading robot manufacturers, academic labs, and enterprise clients.
Core Responsibilities
Technical Leadership (70 % of Role)
- Design, develop, and continually refine repair and maintenance procedures for humanoid and small service robots, ensuring compliance with safety standards and manufacturer specifications.
- Establish a comprehensive training curriculum and certification pathway for a nationwide network of freelance robotics technicians.
- Lead hands‑on troubleshooting sessions for complex technical failures, providing root‑cause analysis, repair plans, and documentation for future reference.
- Collaborate with robot OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) to stay ahead of firmware updates, hardware revisions, and emerging technologies.
- Implement a robust quality‑assurance framework to monitor service outcomes, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement metrics.
Strategic Co‑Founder Contributions (30 % of Role)
- Participate in high‑level strategic planning, including market positioning, pricing models, and go‑to‑market tactics.
- Assist in fundraising activities by preparing technical decks, answering investor due‑diligence queries, and showcasing product feasibility.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers, interns, and the broader technical team.
- Help shape company culture, values, and operational processes from the ground up.
- Represent the company at industry conferences, webinars, and partner meetings to build brand awareness.
Essential Qualifications
- Hands‑On Robotics Expertise: Minimum 3 years of direct experience repairing, maintaining, or engineering humanoid or service robots. Demonstrated proficiency with mechanical, electrical, and software subsystems.
- Startup Mindset: Prior involvement with early‑stage ventures—especially those that achieved a successful exit or secured venture capital—is highly valued.
- Financial Independence: Because this is a sweat‑equity role, candidates must have a stable source of income outside the company to support themselves part‑time.
- Problem‑Solving Acumen: Ability to diagnose complex failures, develop creative repair solutions, and document results for repeatability.
- Collaborative Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills to convey technical information to non‑technical stakeholders, partners, and remote team members.
- U.S. Residency or Work Authorization: The role is fully remote but limited to applicants based in the United States.
Preferred (But Not Required) Skills & Experience
- Experience raising capital for a startup (angel, seed, or series A rounds).
- Track record of contributing to a company that exited via acquisition or IPO.
- Familiarity with ISO/IEC standards for robotics safety and service.
- Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in robotics (e.g., Python, C++, ROS).
- Knowledge of cloud‑based service management platforms for dispatching field technicians.
Key Competencies for Success
- Innovation & Adaptability: The robotics landscape evolves rapidly; you must thrive in ambiguous environments and pivot as needed.
- Leadership Presence: Inspire trust and confidence in a distributed team, setting clear expectations and delivering on commitments.
- Customer‑Centric Mindset: Translate technical excellence into tangible value for end‑users, ensuring timely and reliable service.
- Organizational Skills: Manage multiple projects, deadlines, and stakeholder communications while maintaining meticulous documentation.
- Ethical Integrity: Uphold the highest standards of safety, confidentiality, and professional conduct.
Career Growth & Learning Opportunities
Joining a pre‑revenue startup offers a unique learning curve that is rarely available in larger, more established organizations. As a co‑founder, you will:
- Gain exposure to the full spectrum of business operations—from product development to sales, finance, and legal affairs.
- Develop a personal brand as a thought leader in the emerging robot service industry.
- Earn equity that could appreciate dramatically as the market matures and the company scales.
- Participate in mentorship programs, webinars, and industry round‑tables that accelerate professional development.
- Potentially transition into a full‑time executive role (e.g., Chief Technology Officer) as the company moves beyond its seed phase.
Work Environment & Company Culture
Our culture is built on three pillars: Innovation, Collaboration, and Transparency. Even though we operate remotely, we foster a strong sense of community through regular video stand‑ups, virtual coffee chats, and quarterly in‑person retreats (once logistics allow). We value:
- Open Communication: Everyone’s voice matters, regardless of title or tenure.
- Outcome‑Driven Flexibility: We prioritize results over hours, encouraging team members to work when they are most productive.
- Diversity & Inclusion: A varied team brings richer perspectives, leading to better problem‑solving and product innovation.
- Continuous Learning: Access to online courses, conference tickets, and internal knowledge‑sharing sessions.
Compensation, Equity, and Perks
While this role is primarily equity‑driven, we recognize the importance of rewarding your contributions:
- Equity Package: A meaningful portion of founder‑level equity, subject to a five‑year vesting schedule with a one‑year cliff.
- Competitive Base Stipend (if applicable): Depending on the level of commitment, a modest stipend may be provided to offset occasional out‑of‑pocket expenses.
- Professional Development: Reimbursement for relevant certifications, industry conference fees, and technical training.
- Health & Wellness: Access to a curated list of virtual wellness programs and mental‑health resources.
- Technology Allowance: Credit for tools, software subscriptions, and hardware needed to perform technical work efficiently.
- Remote Work Support: Guidance on ergonomic home office setup and a budget for internet or coworking space memberships.
