If you thrive in fast‑paced environments, possess a deep commitment to mental health advocacy, and are looking for a role that blends clinical expertise with innovative tele‑health delivery, we invite you to explore the exciting opportunity below.

Position Overview – Remote 3rd‑Shift Crisis Specialist (CBCH)

The Remote 3rd‑Shift Crisis Specialist serves as a critical frontline responder for individuals experiencing acute mental health crises during evenings and overnight hours. Working from the comfort of your home, you will provide immediate, evidence‑based crisis assessment, de‑escalation, safety planning, and referral services via phone, video, and secure chat platforms. You will act as a trusted liaison between clients, their families, and a network of community resources, ensuring that each person receives the least restrictive, most appropriate level of care.

Key Responsibilities – What Your Day (or Night) Will Look Like

  • Immediate Crisis Response: Answer inbound crisis calls, video sessions, and secure messages promptly, adhering to established service level agreements for 3rd‑shift coverage.
  • Comprehensive Assessment: Conduct thorough risk assessments to evaluate potential harm to self or others, documenting findings in Centerstone’s electronic health record (EHR) with precision and clarity.
  • De‑Escalation & Stabilization: Apply validated crisis intervention techniques (e.g., Collaborative Problem Solving, Motivational Interviewing) to calm heightened emotional states and develop short‑term safety plans.
  • Resource Navigation: Identify and connect callers with the least restrictive treatment options, including community mental health agencies, emergency services, crisis stabilization units, and peer‑support networks.
  • Follow‑Up Coordination: Document follow‑up needs, schedule check‑ins, and communicate critical information to the on‑call treatment team for continuity of care.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Participate in nightly shift huddles, multidisciplinary case conferences, and regular supervision to share insights, discuss challenging cases, and refine intervention strategies.
  • Data Integrity: Maintain accurate, timely records of all contacts, outcomes, and referrals, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards (HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2) and Centerstone’s quality‑assurance protocols.
  • Professional Representation: Uphold Centerstone’s brand and values when interacting with external agencies, community partners, and the public, reinforcing trust and credibility.
  • Continuous Learning: Complete mandatory online trainings, certifications, and competency assessments as required, staying current with emerging best practices in crisis care.

Essential Qualifications – The Foundations of Success

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Behavioral Health, or a related field. Equivalent professional experience may be considered with supervisory approval.
  • Licensure/Certification: While a state‑licensed mental health credential is not required for this entry‑level role, candidates who hold a Certified Crisis Intervention Specialist (CCIS) or similar certification are strongly preferred.
  • Experience: Demonstrated experience (paid or volunteer) providing crisis intervention, suicide prevention, or mental health support in a call‑center, tele‑health, or community‑based setting.
  • Technical Proficiency: Comfortable navigating EHR systems, secure messaging platforms, and video conferencing tools; strong typing speed and internet connectivity that meets Centerstone’s security standards.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities, including the capacity to convey empathy, establish rapport, and document clinical information concisely.
  • Professionalism: Ability to maintain composure under pressure, exercise sound judgement, and adhere to ethical standards and confidentiality regulations.

Preferred Qualifications – What Sets Candidates Apart

  • Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related discipline.
  • Current licensure (LCSW, LMFT, LPC, or RN) with experience in crisis or emergency psychiatry.
  • Certification in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) or similar evidence‑based programs.
  • Familiarity with the Certified Community Behavioral Health Center (CBCH) model and its regulatory framework.
  • Prior experience working exclusively in a remote or tele‑health environment.
  • Fluency in a second language (e.g., Spanish, French) to broaden service accessibility.

Core Skills & Competencies – The Toolkit for Excellence

  • Crisis Intervention Techniques: Mastery of de‑escalation, safety planning, and rapid risk assessment methodologies.
  • Empathy & Active Listening: Ability to validate client experiences while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Critical Thinking: Quick synthesis of information to determine appropriate level of care and referral pathways.
  • Collaboration: Strong team orientation, with willingness to share insights and seek guidance from supervisors and peers.
  • Time Management: Efficient handling of multiple calls and documentation tasks within shift constraints.
  • Technology Literacy: Proficiency with secure video conferencing (e.g., Zoom for Healthcare), electronic health records, and digital scheduling tools.
  • Cultural Competence: Sensitivity to diverse populations, including LGBTQIA+, veterans, individuals with disabilities, and various socioeconomic backgrounds.

Career Growth & Learning – Your Pathway to Advancement
