Headquartered in Rice Lake, Wisconsin, our organization blends a rich heritage of reliable utility contracting with a forward‑thinking approach to modern communications. Our teams are celebrated for their integrity, commitment to safety, and relentless pursuit of excellence. As a rapidly expanding player in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector, we empower our employees with the tools, training, and mentorship needed to build rewarding, long‑term careers while delivering world‑class fiber solutions across the western United States.

Role Overview – Entry‑Level Fiber Installation Technician (Remote – Travel‑Intensive)

We are seeking an enthusiastic, technically‑inclined professional to join our field crew as an Entry‑Level Fiber Installation Technician. This position is ideal for individuals who are eager to start a hands‑on career in structured cabling, enjoy working in dynamic environments, and are comfortable traveling up to 80 % of the time across Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado. While prior experience is a plus, a strong willingness to learn, a solid work ethic, and the ability to follow detailed instructions are the core ingredients for success.

Key Responsibilities – What You’ll Do Every Day

  • Construct cable pathways: Install cable trays, ladder racks, J‑hooks, and protective sleeves to create organized routes for fiber and copper cabling.
  • Deploy structured cabling systems: Pull, terminate, label, and test fiber optic and twisted‑pair cables in accordance with industry standards.
  • Assemble and configure cabinets: Build and outfit racks, patch panels, and cable management systems to ensure clean, efficient, and scalable infrastructure.
  • Install and commission equipment: Mount optical network terminals, switches, and other hardware, then assist with system start‑up and performance verification.
  • Collaborate with project teams: Work closely with on‑site foremen, project managers, and safety officers to align daily tasks with project schedules and quality expectations.
  • Maintain safety and compliance: Follow OSHA 10 guidelines, complete pre‑task hazard assessments, and use personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Represent PUSH Technologies positively: Interact with customers and subcontractors in a courteous, professional manner, reinforcing our reputation for reliability and excellence.
  • Continuous improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline processes, reduce waste, and enhance workmanship quality, then share insights with the team.
  • Additional duties as assigned: Support ad‑hoc projects, assist senior technicians, and contribute to inventory management when needed.

Essential Qualifications – The Minimum You Must Have

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass comprehensive pre‑employment background and drug screenings.
  • High school diploma or GED; additional technical education is a plus.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces.
  • Willingness to travel up to 80 % of the workweek, including overnight stays in remote locations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to follow instructions, document work, and interact with customers.
  • Demonstrated reliability and the capacity to work independently without constant supervision.

Preferred Qualifications – What Sets You Apart

  • Completion of BICSI or similar structured‑cabling certifications (or a commitment to obtain them within a defined timeframe).
  • OSHA 10‑hour construction safety certification.
  • Previous hands‑on experience with fiber optic termination, splicing, or testing equipment such as OTDRs, power meters, and visual fault locators.
  • Familiarity with blueprint reading, conduit installation, and basic electrical safety practices.
  • Experience using hand and power tools safely and efficiently.
  • Exposure to telecommunications project management software (e.g., Procore, PlanGrid) or asset tracking systems.

Core Skills & Competencies – Foundations for Success

  • Technical aptitude: Ability to grasp new technologies quickly, troubleshoot connectivity issues, and perform precise cable termination.
  • Attention to detail: Meticulous labeling, documentation, and adherence to industry standards to ensure network reliability.
  • Problem‑solving mindset: Identify obstacles on‑site and develop practical solutions while minimizing downtime.
  • Team collaboration: Work cooperatively with foremen, engineers, and client representatives to achieve shared objectives.
  • Time management: Prioritize tasks, meet daily targets, and keep project schedules on track despite changing field conditions.
  • Physical stamina: Maintain productivity during long hours of standing, climbing, and handling equipment in varied weather.
  • Safety consciousness: Consistently apply safety protocols, report hazards, and protect oneself and others from injury.

Physical Demands & Work Environment – What to Expect

This role requires regular exposure to both indoor and outdoor settings, often in extreme weather conditions ranging from high heat to sub‑zero temperatures. The technician will be expected to:

  • Walk, stand, sit, bend, twist, stoop, push, pull, and carry equipment and materials throughout the day.
  • Coordinate hand‑eye‑foot movements for precise cable handling and tool operation.
  • Operate safely on ladders, scaffolding, and elevated platforms.
  • Maintain alertness while driving long distances between job sites.
  • Utilize personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, steel‑toe boots, and high‑visibility apparel) at all times.

While the position is remote, PUSH Technologies provides housing accommodations at each project location, ensuring a comfortable living environment during extended assignments.
