About the Department of Kinesiology, Health Promotion, and Recreation
The Department of Kinesiology, Health Promotion, and Recreation (KHPR) at UNT is a vibrant and dynamic community of scholars who are dedicated to advancing knowledge and promoting healthy lifestyles. With over 1,300 students, the department offers a range of undergraduate and graduate programs in kinesiology, health promotion, and recreation. About the Position
We are seeking an experienced Assistant Professor in Sport, Exercise, or Health Psychology to join our team at UNT. This is a full-time, nine-month tenure-track position that will start in Fall 2024. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the continued development and success of the department through research, teaching, service, outreach, and mentoring of students.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and teach two courses per long semester to undergraduate and/or graduate students in sport, exercise, and health psychology or related areas.
- Engage in quality research and publish in quality journal outlets and present at professional conferences.
- Collaborate with colleagues to expand ongoing research efforts within the department.
- Contribute to the department's service and outreach efforts, including advising students, serving on committees, and developing curriculum.
- Mentor students in research, practical, and service experiences.
Essential Qualifications
- PhD (or equivalent) in sport, exercise, or health psychology or related field (e.g., psychosocial aspects of sport and exercise, kinesiology, psychology, etc.) at time of appointment.
- Ability to develop an extramurally funded research profile.
- Evidence of teaching at university/college level in sport, exercise, or health psychology.
- Demonstrated commitment to working with and mentoring diverse student populations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Research focus on addressing health disparities and improving quality of life.
- Post-doc or prior experience in a faculty position.
- Experience in higher education developing and delivering in-person, online, and hybrid courses to diverse student populations.
- Ability to provide mentorship for students pursuing professional certifications such as CMPC, CSCS, or CPT.
