Position Overview
We are seeking a compassionate, organized, and skilled Paraprofessional to provide direct, hands‑on support to students in a general‑education classroom setting. This role works closely with certified teachers to implement individualized education plans (IEPs), adapt instructional materials, and foster an inclusive atmosphere that promotes academic growth and social‑emotional development. The position is full‑time, non‑exempt, and reports to the Principal or Assistant Principal of Northpoint Elementary School.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborative Instructional Support: Partner with classroom teachers to coordinate lesson delivery, modify activities, and ensure alignment with each student’s IEP goals.
- Material Preparation & Distribution: Prepare lesson resources, bulletin‑board displays, adaptive equipment, and handouts; distribute textbooks, workbooks, and testing materials, and collect completed assignments.
- Student Supervision & Safety: Monitor student behavior in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, gyms, and on field trips; enforce school policies and maintain a secure learning environment.
- Adaptive Equipment Utilization: Operate and assist with communication devices, wheelchairs, adaptive feeding tools, and other assistive technologies that promote independence.
- Behavioral Intervention: Implement positive reinforcement strategies, behavior modification techniques, and social‑skills instruction to teach acceptable conduct and self‑regulation.
- Personal Care Assistance: Provide support for self‑care tasks such as hygiene, feeding, and mobility as needed, while respecting each student’s dignity and privacy.
- Documentation & Reporting: Accurately record observations, grade assignments, compute scores, and complete required reports in a timely manner.
- Substitute Teacher Support: Serve as the primary point of contact for substitute teachers, offering guidance, classroom routines, and resource materials during teacher absences.
- Professional Collaboration: Participate in student‑personnel evaluation teams, contribute insights, and act as a resource for interdisciplinary discussions about student progress.
- Ethical Conduct & Confidentiality: Uphold the highest standards of professionalism, maintaining confidentiality of student information in accordance with district policies and state regulations.
Essential Qualifications
- Valid Illinois Paraprofessional or Professional Educator License (Regional Office of Education #17) issued prior to the start date.
- Strong Communication Skills: Excellent oral and written abilities to interact effectively with teachers, administrators, families, and community partners.
- Physical Capability: Ability to lift up to 50 lb and push/pull up to 10 lb, facilitating safe assistance with student mobility and equipment handling.
- Detail‑Oriented Mindset: Precision in documentation, data entry, and preparation of instructional materials.
- Commitment to Inclusive Education: Demonstrated passion for supporting diverse learners and adapting instruction to meet individual needs.
Preferred Qualifications & Experiences
- Experience working with students who have autism spectrum disorder, emotional/behavioral disorders, or multiple disabilities.
- Proficiency with assistive technology tools such as augmentative communication devices, adaptive seating, and customized learning software.
- Certification in First Aid/CPR or related health and safety training.
- Prior experience in a remote or hybrid educational setting, demonstrating self‑direction and effective virtual collaboration.
- Training in Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) or Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).
