Key Responsibilities – Your Day‑to‑Day Impact

As a Teacher Assistant you will be the backbone of classroom operations and behavior management. Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Student Supervision & Safety: Monitor student behavior in classrooms, hallways, lunchrooms, and transition periods, ensuring a secure and structured environment at all times.
  • Behavior Management Implementation: Apply The Foundation Schools’ behavior management system, school rules, and individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) to de‑escalate situations and promote positive conduct.
  • Lesson Support & Academic Assistance: Collaborate with the lead teacher to deliver individual and group assignments, assist with lesson preparation, and help students complete classwork aligned with IEP goals.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate electronic and paper records of student behavior, attendance, and progress, meeting all deadlines and confidentiality standards.
  • Transition Facilitation: Guide students safely between classrooms, during arrivals, departures, and unstructured times, minimizing disruptions and encouraging independence.
  • Team Collaboration: Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, committees, and professional development sessions with teachers, therapists, and behavior coordinators to tailor interventions.
  • Professional Boundaries & Confidentiality: Uphold clear, respectful boundaries with students and protect sensitive information in accordance with privacy policies.
  • Crisis Response: Employ verbal de‑escalation techniques, follow the behavior continuum, and, when necessary, assist with therapeutic holds, seclusions, or student restraints under trained supervision.
  • Resource Management: Distribute books, supplies, and classroom materials; perform basic clerical duties such as copying, filing, and preparing instructional aids.

Essential Qualifications – What We Need From You

To thrive in this role, candidates must demonstrate the following core qualifications:

  • Educational Background: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Experience: At least 1‑2 years of direct experience supporting students with special needs, preferably in a classroom or behavioral health setting.
  • Knowledge of IEPs & BIPs: Familiarity with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), including the ability to implement and monitor them.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities; capable of documenting incidents clearly and concisely.
  • Professionalism: Strong ethical standards, punctuality, and the ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Technical Proficiency: Comfortable using electronic documentation platforms, virtual collaboration tools (e.g., Zoom, Google Workspace), and basic classroom technology.

Preferred Qualifications – Going the Extra Mile

  • Certification in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), or related fields.
  • Experience with crisis intervention training, including safe‑hold techniques and de‑escalation strategies.
