Our Remote workforce enjoys cutting‑edge technology, flexible schedules, and a supportive environment that encourages continuous learning and personal growth.

Why This Role Matters: Transforming Business Through Technology

The Senior Remote Software Engineering Specialist will be a pivotal architect and hands‑on developer driving the design, implementation, and delivery of cutting‑edge, end‑to‑end solutions that power our digital experiences. This position sits at the intersection of strategic technology leadership and pragmatic software craftsmanship, bridging high‑level architectural vision with day‑to‑day agile delivery.

Position Summary

As a senior specialist, you will lead complex architectural design across multiple platforms, define organization‑wide standards, mentor distributed development teams (including contract and offshore engineers), and champion low‑code/no‑code platforms such as Unqork. You will be the go‑to subject matter expert for a broad portfolio of applications, technologies, and integration patterns, ensuring that Transamerica’s digital products are scalable, secure, and aligned with business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architectural Leadership: Lead analysis, conceptualization, and detailed design of multi‑layered solutions spanning web, cloud, and low‑code environments. Translate high‑level architectural guidelines into actionable technical designs.
  • Standards & Governance: Chair cross‑functional committees to develop, refine, and enforce organization‑wide standards, best practices, coding conventions, and governance processes.
  • Agile Collaboration: Partner with product owners, business analysts, and UI/UX designers in an agile framework to deliver incremental value, maintain backlog hygiene, and ensure rapid feedback loops.
  • Hands‑On Development: Write, test, and review high‑quality code in languages such as C#, Java, Python, and PHP. Build responsive front‑end components using JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, and modern frameworks.
  • Low‑Code Expertise: Design, configure, and extend applications using Unqork (or comparable low‑code platforms). Create reusable components, workflows, and integrations that accelerate delivery.
  • Integration Strategy: Architect and implement RESTful and SOAP‑based services, leveraging API gateways, middleware, and third‑party libraries to enable seamless data exchange.
  • Team Leadership & Mentorship: Guide remote and offshore development teams, conduct large‑scale design workshops, perform code reviews, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Research & Innovation: Stay ahead of emerging technologies, evaluate new frameworks, and propose proof‑of‑concept initiatives that drive competitive advantage.
  • Documentation & Communication: Produce clear technical documentation, design specifications, and executive‑level presentations to articulate solution rationale and business impact.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum 6 years of hands‑on software development experience with at least two of the following languages: C#, Java, Python, or PHP.
  • Certified Unqork Associate Configurator or demonstrable experience in low‑code/no‑code application development.
  • Proficiency in front‑end technologies: JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, CSS3, and experience with modern UI libraries (e.g., React, Angular, Vue).
  • Strong command of SQL and relational database design; practical experience with Oracle, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) within both Waterfall and Agile (Scrum/Kanban) contexts.
  • Solid knowledge of version control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and build tools.
  • Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs and SOAP web services, including authentication, throttling, and error handling.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical discussions, influence cross‑functional stakeholders, and present complex concepts to senior leadership.

Preferred (Nice‑to‑Have) Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, including serverless architectures and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Background in building proofs of concept (PoC) that evolve into production‑grade solutions.
  • Work history in an on‑site/off‑shore development model, managing distributed teams across multiple time zones.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices, infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation), and monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana).
  • Professional certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Azure Fundamentals, Certified ScrumMaster).

Core Skills & Competencies for Success

  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to decompose complex problems, evaluate trade‑offs, and devise elegant technical solutions.
  • Customer‑Centric Mindset: Consistently prioritize end‑user experience and business value in every decision.
  • Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with global, cross‑functional teams, fostering trust and open communication.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable navigating shifting priorities, emerging requirements, and rapid technology changes.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to code quality, documentation, and testing to deliver reliable, maintainable software.
  • Leadership Presence: Confidence to mentor junior engineers, lead design workshops, and drive consensus among stakeholders.
