Job Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Academic Tutor to join our team in supporting the academic success of our students. As an Academic Tutor, you will play a vital role in providing individualized and group tutoring services to students in various subjects, including Developmental Reading, Writing, English, Math, and English as a Second Language. This is a grant-funded position through August 31, 2025, offering a unique opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of our students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide academic tutoring to project participants, focusing on note-taking, study skills, and review of online content, including syllabi and other course materials
  • Offer in-class or in-laboratory assistance to support student learning and academic success
  • Utilize our fully integrated computerized information system (Ellucian) to maintain accurate and efficient records of tutoring sessions and student progress
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to program participants, ensuring a supportive and inclusive learning environment
  • Maintain accurate and efficient tutoring files and grant records, adhering to institutional policies and procedures
  • Participate in tutor training meetings and staff development sessions to enhance your skills and knowledge
  • Prepare correspondence, program information, and services related to hospitality, as required
  • Perform other related duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the program

Essential Qualifications

  • High School diploma and four to five years of related experience or required course work/certification and/or specialized skills/training
  • Alternatively, a combination of education and related experience for a total of four to five years
  • High School diploma and completion of at least 30 credit hours at the collegiate level with an overall average of 'B' or better (or GPA of 3.0 on a 4-point scale) in major courses
  • Earned a grade of 'A' in specific courses to serve as a tutor
  • Experience as a tutor or prior transferable experience preferred

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited college/university
  • Specialized training or certification in tutoring, academic support, or a related field
  • Experience working with diverse student populations, including students with disabilities
  • Strong knowledge of developmental education, including reading, writing, and math
  • Familiarity with Ellucian or similar student information systems

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to collaboration and teamwork
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to think critically and creatively
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite, with the ability to learn new software and technologies
