As a member of our team, you will be part of a collaborative and inclusive community that values diversity, equity, and excellence in education. **Job Summary** We are seeking an experienced Special Education Teacher to join our MPS Online K-5 Program team. As a Special Education Teacher, you will be responsible for providing high-quality instruction and support to students with developmental disabilities, ages 5-11. You will work closely with students, families, and colleagues to create a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment that fosters academic, social, and emotional growth. **Key Responsibilities** * Provide quality instruction aligned to the state and national standards, using a variety of assessment strategies to inform instructional decisions and increase student self-management of learning. * Develop and implement rigorous inquiry-based learning tasks that engage students in deep content of the discipline as well as the habits of scholarship. * Collaborate with peers to develop, plan, and implement best practices based on the needs/abilities of students. * Assess students' developmental, cognitive, and social needs and provide developmentally appropriate instruction to meet those needs. * Create lessons and learning environments that are safe, respectful, and interesting, as well as multicultural/gender and ability fair/developmentally appropriate. * Collaborate and communicate regularly with families in making educational decisions and use family and community resources to support learning. * Acquire knowledge of the goals of the Minneapolis Public School District Improvement Agenda and site/school goals, and work to support and achieve those goals. * Assess own instructional effectiveness through the Professional Development Process (PDP). * Participate in ongoing and regular staff, team, and individual professional development. **Essential Qualifications** * Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university. * Prior successful experience in student teaching or teaching in an urban, multicultural education setting. * Demonstrated continued professional development through coursework, research, peer collaboration, and/or job-embedded staff development. * A valid Minnesota Mild to Moderate Developmental Disabilities or Academic Behavior Strategist, teaching license; or proof of pending approved licensure. **Preferred Qualifications** * Experience working with students with developmental disabilities. * Familiarity with online learning platforms and tools. * Strong communication and interpersonal skills. * Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. * Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in education. **Skills and Competencies** * Strong instructional skills and knowledge of special education best practices. * Ability to assess student needs and develop individualized learning plans. * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. * Strong organizational and time management skills. * Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. * Commitment to ongoing professional development and learning. **Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits** As a member of our team, you will have access to a range of career growth opportunities and learning benefits, including: * Ongoing professional development and training opportunities. * Collaborative and supportive work environment. * Opportunities for leadership and mentorship. * Access to cutting-edge technology and online learning platforms. * Flexible scheduling and remote work options. **Work Environment and Company Culture** Our MPS Online K-5 Program is a dynamic and supportive online learning environment that values diversity, equity, and excellence in education.
