About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Teaching Assistant/Associate Professor & Clinical Education Coordinator to join our Athletic Training program. This is a 12-month, non-tenure track position that will report directly to the Department Head. As a key member of our faculty team, you will play a critical role in advancing the program's clinical education, teaching, and research initiatives. Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and direction to advance clinical education, including assessment of data, developing and opening new clinical placement sites, inviting new preceptors, and evaluating student clinical progression.
- Coordinate all aspects of athletic training clinical experiences and supplemental clinical experiences, including initiating, updating, and tracking affiliation agreements, overseeing student clinical progression, and completing evaluations.
- Work with and engage preceptors, including regular communication, selection, evaluation, and professional development, to ensure high-quality clinical experiences for students.
- Utilize eValue as a clinical management platform to document student clinical experiences and aid with policy development related to clinical education.
- Assist with maintaining compliance documentation for the health and safety of athletic training students, including essential function standards, immunization/vaccination verification, and other relevant requirements.
- Work collaboratively with other faculty to advance the program's goals and objectives, ensure an engaging experience for students, and promote innovative teaching approaches, including simulation.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate athletic training courses, advise and mentor graduate athletic training students, and guide student research projects, including evidence-based practice or original research.
- Support the recruitment, selection, and retention of students for the undergraduate and MSAT program, and provide service to the university, department, community, and profession.
- Demonstrate regular scholarly activity, including publishing research or scholarly work in peer-reviewed journals, presenting at conferences, and engaging in other forms of academic productivity.
Essential Qualifications
- Earned doctoral degree (PhD, EdD) recognized within a field of specialization or closely related (Public Health, Kinesiology, Biomechanics, Exercise Science, etc.).
- Terminal Athletic Training clinical degree (DAT) candidates are eligible to apply.
- Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) in good standing with the Board of Certification - Athletic Training.
- Eligible for Athletic Training licensure in Kansas.
- 1-3 years of collegiate-level teaching experience, preferably in a CAATE-accredited program (undergraduate and/or graduate).
- Experience advising and mentoring athletic training students through coursework/plan of study.
- Clinical practice as an Athletic Trainer beyond a graduate assistant position.
- Active membership and participation in professional organizations.
- Experience in mentoring undergraduate/graduate research or scholarly activity.
- 1-3 peer-reviewed/published articles of research or scholarly work within the last 5 years.
- Contemporary expertise and prior teaching experience in athletic training courses (injury prevention and wellness, urgent and emergent care, primary care, orthopedics, rehabilitation, behavioral health, pediatrics, and performance enhancement).
- Evidence of organizational skills and excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- More than three years of collegiate-level teaching experience in a CAATE-accredited program, preferably graduate level.
- Familiarity with coordinating interprofessional education activities.
- Contemporary expertise in areas such as public health, population health, informatics, quality improvement.
- Experience with innovative curriculum development/design (i.e., technology implementation, online teaching, simulations, etc.).
- Demonstrated commitment to multicultural competence with skills and experience to work with diverse individuals.
- Administrative experience within a CAATE-accredited program.
- Experience with program planning and operation, program assessment, maintenance of accreditation.
- Experience with the CAATE Accreditation review process, curriculum design, and pedagogy.
- Clinical practice as an athletic trainer in a setting other than intercollegiate or interscholastic athletic healthcare.
- Experience with Board of Certification (BOC) Approved Provider Programming and Administration.
- American Heart Association BLS Instructor.
