Why Walmart? – A Visionary Marketplace Shaping the Future of Retail

At Walmart, we aren’t just a retailer – we are a global force empowering more than 275 million customers each week to “live better.” From bustling neighborhood stores to the seamless digital experience of Walmart.com, our purpose drives every decision we make. As the Fortune #1 company by revenue, we blend massive scale with an unwavering commitment to inclusion, sustainability, and community impact.

Joining Walmart means becoming part of a culture that celebrates diversity, nurtures curiosity, and rewards ambition. Whether you’re launching a new private‑brand vitamin line, negotiating with the world’s leading supplement manufacturers, or shaping the data‑driven strategy that fuels multi‑billion‑dollar growth, you’ll be at the heart of a mission‑centric organization that values your voice and your vision.

Position Overview – Remote Senior Category Merchant, Vitamins & Nutraceuticals

We are seeking an experienced, data‑savvy, and market‑centric merchant to lead our Vitamins & Nutraceuticals category across both brick‑and‑mortar and e‑commerce channels. This fully remote role empowers you to shape every facet of the product lifecycle – from strategic sourcing and assortment planning to pricing, merchandising, and post‑launch performance analysis. You will own a significant profit‑and‑loss (P&L) portfolio, drive sustainable profitability, and champion innovation that resonates with health‑conscious shoppers worldwide.

Key Responsibilities – Turning Strategy into Impact

  • Category Strategy & Vision: Develop and execute a multi‑year category plan that aligns with Walmart’s broader retail objectives, balances growth with margin, and anticipates emerging health trends.
  • Financial Stewardship: Own the P&L for the vitamins portfolio, set budgetary targets, track quarterly performance, and implement corrective actions to exceed profitability goals.
  • Market Intelligence & Trend Spotting: Conduct ongoing research to identify consumer preferences, regulatory shifts, and competitive movements in the nutraceutical space; translate insights into actionable opportunities.
  • Supplier & Vendor Partnerships: Build and nurture high‑trust relationships with domestic and international manufacturers, negotiate favorable terms, and ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
  • Assortment & Merchandising: Curate a differentiated product mix that balances established brands, emerging innovators, and Walmart’s own private‑label lines; optimize shelf placement, digital storefronts, and promotional calendars.
  • Product Development & Innovation: Partner with the Product Development and Sourcing teams to ideate, prototype, and launch exclusive vitamin formulations that fill gaps in the market and reinforce Walmart’s value proposition.
  • Pricing & Promotion Strategy: Leverage data analytics to set competitive price points, design promotional tactics, and assess elasticity, ensuring optimal revenue and customer satisfaction.
  • Supply Chain Coordination: Collaborate with inventory planners, logistics, and store operations to guarantee product availability, minimize stock‑outs, and reduce excess inventory.
  • Performance Analytics: Build dashboards, run scenario analyses, and present findings to senior leadership; use A/B testing and shopper research to refine strategies continuously.
  • Cross‑Functional Leadership: Serve as the category champion in cross‑functional forums, influencing merchandising, marketing, digital, and finance teams to align around shared goals.

Essential Qualifications – The Foundations of Success

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Merchandising, Supply Chain, or a related discipline. A Master’s degree (MBA or MS in Merchandising) is strongly preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive merchandising, buying, or category management experience within a large‑scale retail or consumer‑goods environment; experience managing a multi‑billion‑dollar P&L is essential.
  • Data Fluency: Proficiency with Excel, SQL, or analytical platforms (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) to interpret sales data, forecast demand, and create actionable insights.
  • Negotiation & Influencing Skills: Demonstrated ability to close high‑value contracts, secure favorable pricing, and influence senior stakeholders across internal and external organizations.
  • Consumer‑Centric Mindset: Deep understanding of health‑and‑wellness trends, vitamin regulations, and shopper behavior in both physical and digital channels.
  • Leadership & Collaboration: Proven track record of leading cross‑functional teams, coaching junior staff, and driving consensus in fast‑paced environments.
  • Autonomy & Accountability: Comfortable operating with a high degree of independence, making decisive, data‑driven decisions, and taking ownership of outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications – Differentiators That Set You Apart

  • Advanced certifications in Category Management, Retail Analytics, or Supply Chain (e.g., CPIM, CSCMP).
  • Hands‑on experience with private‑brand development, especially in vitamins, supplements, or functional foods.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (advanced Excel, PowerPoint, and Access) and familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle.
  • Experience leading teams across multiple geographic regions and time zones.
  • Multilingual abilities, particularly Spanish, to support supplier negotiations in Latin America.

Core Skills & Competencies – What It Takes to Thrive

  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to view the big picture while drilling down into granular details.
  • Analytical Rigor: Strong quantitative skills, comfortable with KPIs, ROI calculations, and scenario planning.
  • Communication Excellence: Clear, concise, and persuasive storytelling for both written reports and oral presentations.
  • Creativity & Innovation: Eagerness to experiment with new product formats, packaging, and digital experiences.
  • Resilience & Agility: Thrive under pressure, adapt quickly to market shifts, and view setbacks as growth opportunities.
  • Ethical Judgment: Commitment to compliance, product safety, and responsible sourcing practices.
