Position Overview

The Adult Education ESL Teacher will provide high‑quality English language instruction to registered adult learners through APS’s Adult Education Department. The role is grant‑funded and will span 34 weeks per academic year, delivering 10‑20 hours of instruction each week at $30 per hour. Classes are scheduled in the evening to accommodate working adults, and instruction may occur at multiple district locations or virtually, depending on community needs.

  • Student Assessment: Administer CASAS (Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems) pre‑tests and post‑tests, interpret results, and use data to tailor instruction to individual learner needs.
  • Classroom Management: Create a supportive, inclusive environment that encourages adult learners to participate actively, ask questions, and practice new language skills.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain precise records of attendance, assessment scores, lesson plans, and any required reporting for grant compliance.
  • Collaboration: Coordinate with fellow adult education faculty, the Academic Director, and the Adult Education Supervisor to ensure cohesive program delivery and share best practices.

Essential Qualifications

All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year teaching English as a Second Language, preferably to adult learners.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to convey complex concepts clearly, both orally and in writing, to diverse adult audiences.
