Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including:

  • Conducting continuous surveillance of the pool area to prevent accidents and ensure compliance with safety regulations
  • Responding quickly to emergency situations and performing first aid as needed
  • Planning, organizing, and evaluating assigned aquatic programs and facilities
  • Assigning, scheduling, and reviewing the work of lower-level staff members
  • Providing courteous and professional service to program participants, facility users, City staff, and the public
  • Maintaining accurate records and performing various maintenance duties to ensure a clean and safe facility
  • Using computer software for data entry, roster printing, and registration processing
  • Operating copiers, fax machines, and other program-specific equipment
  • Assisting with ordering, maintaining, and taking inventory of program supplies
  • Preparing incident and accident reports and maintaining program records

Essential Qualifications

To be considered for this exciting opportunity, you must possess the following essential qualifications:

  • Education equivalent to a high school diploma
  • A minimum of one full season (240 hours) of experience performing duties equivalent to a Senior Lifeguard with the City of Fairfield
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License
  • Possession of American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguard Training with Administering Emergency Oxygen Certifications
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical skills evaluation and teaching skills evaluation
  • Possession of an ARC Water Safety Instructor Certification (or ability to obtain within 12 months of appointment)
  • Possession of an ARC Lifeguard Instructor Certification (or ability to obtain within 12 months of appointment)

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following preferred qualifications are highly desirable:

  • Previous experience working in an aquatics environment, preferably in a supervisory or leadership role
  • Knowledge of recreation and lifesaving tools and equipment
  • Experience with modern office equipment, including computers and software applications
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people of diverse ages, cultures, and backgrounds
  • Strong leadership and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
