Job Overview

The successful candidate will have a strong background in molecular biology, laboratory management, and computer maintenance. You will be responsible for organizing and coordinating equipment and supplies, preparing reagents and laboratory requirements, maintaining computer systems, and managing the laboratory and environmental safety program. Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to direct others when needed are essential for this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organize and coordinate all equipment and supplies for six teaching laboratories, including courses, workshops, and summer camps
  • Prepare reagents and other laboratory requirements for teaching and research
  • Maintain all MAC and PC computers, printers, and networks for the Institute, including installation and upgrades of software and virus protection
  • Manage the laboratory and environmental safety program for all Institute employees, including coordinating annual inspections and safety training
  • Work with faculty to develop new laboratory modules for courses and troubleshoot laboratory protocols as required
  • Supervise 1-2 graduate and/or undergraduate laboratory aides as necessary
  • Maintain all equipment in good working order and perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in a Biological Science with coursework in molecular biology and chemistry
  • Two years of full-time directly related experience with advanced research-related/laboratory activities
  • Hands-on molecular biology laboratory experience
  • Experience with both MAC and PC computer platforms, Microsoft Office suite, and computer maintenance

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience with computer troubleshooting
  • Experience with gel electrophoresis, bacterial transformation, and polymerase chain reaction
