Job Overview

We are seeking an accomplished Senior Business/Data Analyst to join our Permit Transformation Program team on a one-year contract basis. This remote position presents a unique opportunity to engage in impactful data analysis projects while collaborating with a team committed to advancing environmental quality. As a Senior Business/Data Analyst, you will play a critical role in driving the success of our data analysis initiatives and contributing to the development of our enterprise data model.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage data analysis initiatives across the DEQ enterprise, ensuring that all projects are completed on time and to a high standard.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and standardize an enterprise data model that aligns with the organization’s business and technical objectives, promoting data consistency and integrity.
  • Provide expert analysis and support to data analysts, architects, and application developers to enhance data management processes, ensuring that all stakeholders have the information they need to make informed decisions.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in technologies including Microsoft Dataverse, SQL Server, Azure Data Factory, and SSIS, providing guidance and training to other team members as needed.
  • Develop and maintain complex databases, data systems, and data processes, ensuring that all data is accurate, complete, and secure.
  • Conduct data quality checks and implement data validation processes to ensure the integrity of our data assets.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify business needs and develop data-driven solutions to meet those needs.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging trends and technologies in data analysis and management, applying this knowledge to continuously improve our data analysis capabilities.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess a combination of technical, business, and interpersonal skills. The following are some of the key skills and qualifications we are looking for:

  • Proficiency in Oracle, DB2, MySQL, and SQL Server, with the ability to design, develop, and maintain complex databases.
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Dataverse and Azure Data Factory, with the ability to develop and implement data integration solutions.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication abilities, with the ability to present complex data insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to mentor and provide guidance to other data professionals, promoting a culture of knowledge sharing and collaboration.
  • Familiarity with enterprise data modeling and management practices, with the ability to develop and maintain data models and data governance processes.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in data analysis or related fields, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality data analysis projects.
  • Proven expertise in database management systems and enterprise data modeling, with the ability to design and implement data architectures that meet business needs.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a relevant discipline, with a strong foundation in data analysis and management principles.

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the required skills and qualifications, the following are some preferred qualifications that would be an asset in this role:

  • Experience working with cloud-based data platforms, such as Azure or AWS.
  • Knowledge of data visualization tools, such as Tableau or Power BI.
  • Experience with agile development methodologies, such as Scrum or Kanban.
  • Certification in data analysis or related fields, such as Certified Data Analyst (CDA) or Certified Analytics Professional (CAP).
  • Experience working in a remote or virtual team environment, with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members across different locations.
