About Cardinal Health Innovative Delivery Solutions

Cardinal Health is a global leader in health‑care services, with more than 45 years of experience partnering with hospitals, health systems, and outpatient pharmacies to improve medication safety, reduce costs, and enhance patient outcomes. Through our Innovative Delivery Solutions division, we have pioneered remote pharmacy services that allow highly skilled pharmacists to deliver hospital‑grade clinical care from the comfort of a home office. Our remote team plays a pivotal role in supporting acute‑care hospitals across Connecticut, delivering expert medication‑therapy management, order verification, and interdisciplinary collaboration without the need for a traditional on‑site presence.

Why This Role Is Different – A Unique Blend of Clinical Excellence and Flexibility

Imagine using your clinical expertise to impact patient lives while enjoying a work‑life balance that few traditional hospital pharmacist roles can offer. This position combines the rigor of acute‑care pharmacy with a fully remote, hybrid work model—meaning you’ll have a dedicated home workspace, reliable technology, and the support of a collaborative virtual team. You’ll work a predictable 7‑on/7‑off schedule, allowing you to recharge after a full week of patient‑focused activity. The role is designed for pharmacists who thrive in dynamic, technology‑driven environments and who value the freedom to manage their own time while still being an integral part of a larger, mission‑driven organization.

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated, clinically oriented pharmacist to join our Remote Pharmacy Services team. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive medication‑therapy management, order verification, and interdisciplinary consultations for acute‑care hospitals across Connecticut. This is a part‑time, 40‑hour‑per‑pay‑period role with a unique 7‑on/7‑off overnight schedule that includes evenings, nights, and weekends.

Key Schedule Details

  • Thursday: 11:30 PM – 6:30 AM EST
  • Friday: 11:30 PM – 3:30 AM EST
  • Saturday: 11:30 PM – 3:30 AM EST
  • Sunday: 3:00 AM – 7:00 AM EST
  • Monday: 11:30 PM – 6:30 AM EST
  • Tuesday: 11:30 PM – 6:30 AM EST
  • Wednesday: 11:30 PM – 6:30 AM EST

All shifts are in Eastern Standard Time (EST) and follow a consistent 7‑day work cycle followed by a 7‑day rest period, ensuring you have ample time to attend to personal commitments, continuing education, or simply unwind.

Core Responsibilities

As a Remote Hospital Clinical Pharmacist, you will be the clinical backbone of our virtual pharmacy team. Your day‑to‑day duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Remote Order Entry & CPOE Verification: Review, verify, and enter medication orders using computerized provider order entry (CPOE) systems, ensuring accuracy, safety, and compliance with hospital protocols.
  • Physician & Nursing Collaboration: Serve as a clinical resource for physicians, nurses, and other health‑care professionals, providing medication‑related recommendations, dosage adjustments, and therapeutic alternatives.
  • Clinical Medication Dosing Services: Apply evidence‑based dosing guidelines, renal and hepatic function assessments, and pharmacokinetic calculations to optimize therapy for complex patients.
  • Therapeutic Monitoring & Lab Review: Continuously monitor patient medication profiles, interpret laboratory values, and intervene when therapeutic goals are not met or adverse events arise.
  • Medication Access Coordination: Ensure timely and appropriate access to medications, navigating formulary restrictions, prior authorizations, and regulatory requirements.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Accurately document all clinical interventions, decisions, and communications in the electronic health record (EHR) to maintain audit‑ready records.
  • Quality Improvement Initiatives: Participate in virtual quality‑improvement projects, contributing data analysis, process redesign, and best‑practice sharing across the remote team.
  • Education & Mentorship: Offer guidance to pharmacy technicians, pharmacy residents, and newer team members through virtual coaching sessions and case reviews.

Essential Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (BSPharm) required; Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) preferred.
  • Licensure: Active Connecticut pharmacist license in good standing, plus a valid pharmacist license in the state of residence (or original licensure state).

  • Familiarity with state and federal pharmacy regulations, including controlled substance handling in a remote environment.

Core Skills & Competencies for Success

  • Clinical Judgment: Ability to assess complex patient information quickly and make evidence‑based medication decisions.
  • Problem‑Solving: Proactive identification of potential medication‑related problems and implementation of corrective actions.

  • Time Management: Efficient handling of high‑volume order verification while maintaining quality standards.
  • Team Orientation: Strong collaborative spirit with a willingness to share knowledge and support peers across time zones.
  • Regulatory Awareness: Up‑to‑date understanding of Connecticut pharmacy law, DEA regulations, and HIPAA compliance.
