Principal Product Management Leader – Remote Data Platform & Analytics Experience (Enterprise‑Scale Data Infrastructure, Machine Learning & Business Intelligence Strategy)

Remote, USA Full-time Posted 2025-05-22

Why Join the Future of Entertainment Data at Netflix?

Netflix isn’t just the world’s leading streaming service; we are a global powerhouse of innovation, culture, and technology. With more than 278 million members spanning over 190 countries, we continuously push the boundaries of how people experience entertainment, from binge‑watching hit series to exploring interactive games. Behind the brilliant user‑facing experience is a sophisticated data ecosystem that fuels every recommendation, content acquisition decision, and operational improvement.

Our Data Platform sits at the heart of this ecosystem, enabling engineers, data scientists, ML practitioners, and business analysts to turn massive streams of raw data into actionable insight—quickly, securely, and at scale. As a Remote Principal Product Manager, you will be the strategic steward of this platform, shaping the analytics experience for millions of internal users and indirectly influencing the enjoyment of billions of viewers worldwide.

About the Role: Visionary Leadership for End‑to‑End Analytics

In the Platform Engineering organization, the Data Platform team is tasked with democratizing data across the company. We build and operate high‑performance, secure, and flexible data infrastructure that empowers every Netflix employee—technical or non‑technical—to solve real‑world problems. This role is the keystone for the next evolution of our analytics experience. You will own the product vision, roadmap, and cross‑functional execution for a portfolio that includes:

  • Managed ETL pipelines that reduce manual toil and accelerate data onboarding.

  • Semantic data modeling frameworks that enable self‑service analytics at scale.

  • Integrated notebook environments for exploratory data science.

  • State‑of‑the‑art visualization and business‑intelligence tools that serve both engineers and business stakeholders.

  • Seamless bridges between analytics workflows and machine‑learning pipelines.

The scope is enterprise‑wide, the impact is measurable, and the opportunities for innovation are endless. If you thrive at the intersection of technology, strategy, and user experience, this is the role for you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and Communicate Vision: Conduct deep user research, analyze product metrics, and stay abreast of industry trends to craft a compelling, long‑term vision for the analytics experience.

  • Strategic Road‑Mapping: Partner with senior engineering leaders and cross‑functional stakeholders to produce clear, data‑driven roadmaps that balance short‑term wins with long‑term ambition.

  • Portfolio Management: Oversee a suite of inter‑related products, prioritize investments, and allocate resources to maximize overall platform value.

  • Metrics‑Driven Execution: Establish OKRs, define success metrics, and implement a rigorous experimentation framework to continuously improve product outcomes.

  • Buy‑vs‑Build Analysis: Evaluate third‑party solutions, open‑source alternatives, and custom builds to ensure the most cost‑effective, future‑proof choices.

  • Customer Advocacy: Build strong feedback loops with engineers, data scientists, analysts, and business users to ensure the platform solves real pain points.

  • Collaboration & Influence: Work closely with product designers, data architects, security teams, and leadership to align on priorities and resolve dependencies.

  • Product Lifecycle Stewardship: Guide products from concept through launch, adoption, scale, and eventual sunsetting, always emphasizing user experience.

  • Thought Leadership: Represent Netflix at conferences, publish internal thought pieces, and mentor emerging product talent within the organization.

Essential Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience as a Technical Product Manager, with at least 3 years focused on data analytics platforms, ML infrastructure, or related domains.

  • Demonstrated success in defining and executing product vision for complex, enterprise‑scale systems.

  • Strong technical foundation: hands‑on familiarity with compute engines (e.g., Spark, Trino), ETL orchestration, notebook environments, and BI tools.

  • Proven ability to manage a diversified product portfolio, balancing big bets with incremental improvements.

  • Excellent quantitative and qualitative analysis skills; comfortable building and interpreting metrics, A/B tests, and market research.

  • Exceptional communication and storytelling abilities, capable of aligning stakeholders from C‑level executives to individual contributors.

  • Passion for continuous learning, with a track record of staying ahead of industry innovation (e.g., data mesh, lakehouse architectures, generative AI for analytics).

Preferred (But Not Required) Attributes

  • Experience with cloud‑native data platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and modern data warehouse technologies.

  • Background in building developer‑centric tooling that emphasizes self‑service and low friction.

  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and security best practices for data platforms.

  • History of influencing product strategy through public speaking, publishing, or community leadership.

  • Track record of mentoring junior product managers or leading cross‑functional product teams.

Core Skills & Competencies for Success

  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to see the big picture while drilling down into tactical execution.

  • Customer‑Centric Mindset: Deep empathy for both technical and non‑technical users.

  • Technical Fluency: Comfortable discussing low‑level architecture, data governance, and performance optimization.

  • Data‑Driven Decision Making: Relies on metrics, experiments, and market data rather than intuition alone.

  • Influence & Negotiation: Persuasive without authority, building consensus across diverse teams.

  • Adaptability: Thrives in a fast‑moving environment where priorities shift and ambiguity is the norm.

  • Leadership Presence: Sets tone for excellence, encourages psychological safety, and champions inclusive collaboration.
