Remote, USA Full-time Posted 2025-11-03

Why Join Our Vision‑Driven Team?

At the forefront of ethical technology, our organization is dedicated to shaping the future of artificial intelligence in a responsible, inclusive, and transparent manner. We partner with global leaders, regulators, and community‑focused groups to embed trustworthy AI practices across every product line. As a Remote Program Manager for Responsible AI Governance and Public Policy, you will be the linchpin that transforms high‑level policy into actionable programs, ensuring that our AI systems are not only innovative but also aligned with societal expectations and regulatory requirements.

About the Role

This is a uniquely balanced, hybrid opportunity that marries remote flexibility with occasional on‑site collaboration in our state‑of‑the‑art office. Over an initial six‑month horizon—with strong potential for extension—you will drive two intertwined pillars of our Responsible AI initiative: Governance Enablement and Public Policy Support. Your expertise will help institutionalize responsible AI across the enterprise, providing a stable framework that blends compliance, stakeholder alignment, and strategic foresight.

Key Responsibilities

Governance Enablement (≈ 50 % of your time)

  • Policy Translation: Convert complex AI policy and regulatory language into clear, actionable project plans that align with architecture roadmaps and product timelines.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Partner with the Responsible AI Tool Team, product owners, engineering leads, and legal counsel to ensure seamless integration of governance requirements.
  • Program Architecture: Design and maintain governance frameworks, risk registers, and compliance dashboards that provide real‑time visibility to senior leadership.
  • Change Management: Lead workshops and training sessions that embed responsible AI principles into everyday workflows, fostering a culture of ethical awareness.
  • Metrics & Reporting: Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure governance health, and prepare executive‑level status reports highlighting progress, risks, and mitigation strategies.

Public Policy Support (≈ 50 % of your time)

  • Regulatory Insight: Monitor emerging AI legislation, standards, and guidance in key jurisdictions; synthesize findings for internal consumption.
  • Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the external Public Policy team to align internal governance initiatives with external regulatory expectations and advocacy positions.
  • Policy Advocacy: Draft briefing materials, position papers, and stakeholder communication that articulate our responsible AI stance to regulators, industry bodies, and the public.
  • Risk Assessment: Conduct impact analyses of new regulations on existing products and advise product teams on compliance pathways.
  • Community Building: Facilitate internal communities of practice that share best practices, lessons learned, and emerging trends in AI ethics and governance.

Essential Qualifications

  • Professional Experience: 5–8 years of proven program or project management experience, with a focus on governance, compliance, or public policy initiatives.
  • Microsoft Experience: Minimum of 2–3 years working within Microsoft’s ecosystem or a comparable large‑scale technology organization, demonstrating familiarity with its tools, culture, and delivery cadence.
  • Compliance & Governance Expertise: 5–8 years of hands‑on experience translating legal or policy documents into executable project plans, risk frameworks, and measurable outcomes.
  • Ambiguity Navigation: Demonstrated ability to thrive in fast‑moving, ambiguous environments where priorities shift rapidly and clarity must be created.
  • Stakeholder Management: Proven track record of influencing senior leaders, negotiating competing priorities, and building consensus across diverse functional groups.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal articulation, with experience crafting presentations, executive briefings, and policy documents for varied audiences.

Preferred Qualifications & Add‑Ons

  • PMI‑ACP, PMP, or equivalent project management certification.
  • Advanced degree (e.g., MBA, MPA, or Master’s in Public Policy) or certifications in AI ethics, data governance, or privacy law.
  • Direct experience with AI/ML product lifecycles, responsible AI toolkits, or ethics‑by‑design frameworks.
  • Familiarity with regulatory bodies such as the EU AI Act, FTC’s AI guidance, or local data protection authorities.
  • Proficiency in project management software (MS Project, Azure DevOps, JIRA) and data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau).

Critical Skills & Competencies

  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to see the big picture, connect disparate projects, and anticipate downstream impacts of governance decisions.
  • Analytical Rigor: Strong problem‑solving capacity, comfortable with quantitative and qualitative data to inform policy implementation.
  • Interpersonal Agility: Skilled at managing politics, building trust, and maintaining productive relationships across global teams.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable operating at scale, juggling multiple concurrent programs, and adjusting plans in response to emerging regulatory developments.
  • Tech Savvy: Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio, and Project; ability to quickly learn new collaboration platforms.

Growth & Learning Opportunities

Our organization invests heavily in career development. As a Program Manager, you will have access to a curated learning pathway that includes:

  • Mentorship from senior AI governance leaders and public policy executives.
  • Sponsored enrollment in industry‑recognized courses on AI ethics, data privacy, and regulatory compliance.
  • Opportunities to represent the company at conferences, policy roundtables, and cross‑industry working groups.
  • Clear promotion tracks from Program Manager to Senior Program Manager, Director of Responsible AI, and beyond.

Work Environment & Culture

We thrive on a culture of transparency, collaboration, and purposeful impact. Our hybrid model empowers you to work from home while fostering regular face‑to‑face connections through monthly on‑site meet‑ups, virtual coffee chats, and cross‑functional hackathons. Key cultural pillars include:

  • Professional development stipend for certifications, conferences, and coursework.
  • Technology allowance for home‑office setup, high‑speed internet, and ergonomic equipment.
  • Generous parental leave, flexible paid time off, and employee assistance programs.

Success in this role will be measured against clear, outcome‑focused metrics, including:

  • Timely delivery of governance frameworks and policy translation artifacts.
