About T.J. Maxx & Workwarp – A Visionary Retail Powerhouse

T.J. Maxx is a global leader in off‑price retail, delighting millions of shoppers with high‑quality fashion, home goods, and accessories at unbeatable values. As part of the larger TJX Companies family, the brand operates in more than 20 countries and is renowned for its fast‑moving, trend‑driven merchandise strategy. Partnering with Workwarp, a premier talent‑acquisition platform that specializes in connecting high‑performing remote professionals with leading brands, this role positions you at the intersection of cutting‑edge technology and consumer‑centric retail.

The eCommerce division is responsible for powering the digital storefronts that millions of customers interact with daily. From mobile apps to desktop browsers, the team builds, scales, and refines experiences that translate the excitement of an in‑store visit to the convenience of online shopping. If you thrive on translating business objectives into seamless, performant web solutions, this is the arena where your impact will be felt worldwide.

Why This Role Is a Game‑Changer for Your Career

As a Full Stack Staff Engineer on the eCommerce team, you will own the end‑to‑end delivery of critical features that shape the customer journey. This isn’t a junior position; you’ll be a technical leader, a mentor, and a strategic partner to product managers, UX designers, and data scientists. The role offers a rare blend of deep technical challenges—ranging from micro‑service architecture to front‑end performance optimization—while allowing you to work fully remote, giving you flexibility and autonomy to craft your ideal work‑life balance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Feature Ownership: Lead the design, development, testing, and deployment of end‑to‑end eCommerce features from concept to production.
  • Architecture & Scalability: Define and evolve micro‑service and API architectures that can handle high traffic peaks during seasonal sales events.
  • Full‑Stack Development: Write clean, maintainable Java code (Spring, JEE) on the back‑end and modern HTML5/JavaScript/CSS on the front‑end, ensuring a cohesive user experience.
  • Code Quality & Mentorship: Conduct peer code reviews, enforce best practices, mentor junior engineers, and champion a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with product owners, UI/UX designers, QA engineers, and DevOps teams to translate business goals into technical specifications.
  • Performance Tuning: Profile and optimize both server‑side and client‑side performance to achieve sub‑second page load times.
  • CI/CD & DevOps Integration: Participate in pipeline configuration (Jenkins, Bitbucket) to enable automated testing, continuous integration, and rapid delivery.
  • Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Produce clear technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and runbooks to facilitate knowledge transfer across distributed teams.
  • Innovation & Experimentation: Evaluate emerging technologies (e.g., containerization, serverless, AI‑driven personalization) and propose proof‑of‑concepts that keep T.J. Maxx at the forefront of retail innovation.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience building and maintaining large‑scale web applications.
  • Strong proficiency in Java, JEE, Spring Framework, and RESTful API design.
  • Hands‑on experience with relational databases and SQL; solid understanding of data modeling and query optimization.
  • Proficiency in modern front‑end technologies: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+), and familiarity with front‑end frameworks (React, Angular, or Vue.js).
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver high‑quality software on tight deadlines and in a fast‑paced Agile environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Self‑starter mentality with a strong sense of ownership, accountability, and a drive to exceed expectations.

Preferred Qualifications & Nice‑to‑Have Skills

  • Experience with ATG (Art Technology Group) Commerce Platform or similar enterprise eCommerce solutions.
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI), and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Exposure to micro‑service patterns, event‑driven architecture, and message brokers (Kafka, RabbitMQ).
  • Background in UI/UX design principles and a keen eye for visual consistency and accessibility.
  • Experience using collaboration tools like Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket for issue tracking and source control.
  • Track record of contributing to open‑source projects or presenting at technical meetups.

Core Competencies & Skills for Success

  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to break down complex problems, conduct root‑cause analysis, and devise elegant technical solutions.
  • Team Collaboration: Demonstrated experience working in cross‑functional, geographically dispersed teams while maintaining strong relationships.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable navigating evolving requirements, new tech stacks, and shifting priorities in a dynamic retail environment.
  • Customer‑Centric Mindset: Consistently prioritizes the end‑user experience, ensuring features are intuitive, performant, and accessible.
  • Quality Focus: Advocates for automated testing, code coverage, static analysis, and other quality gates to sustain high reliability.
  • Leadership Potential: Takes initiative to mentor peers, influence architectural decisions, and champion best practices across the organization.

Career Development & Learning Opportunities

T.J. Maxx invests heavily in the growth of its technical talent. As a Staff Engineer, you will have access to a robust learning ecosystem that includes:

  • Technical Workshops & Certifications: Company‑sponsored courses on cloud platforms, advanced Java, modern front‑end frameworks, and DevOps methodologies.
  • Mentorship Programs: Pairing with senior architects and industry veterans to accelerate your leadership capabilities.
