Job Overview

The Data Science Manager will be responsible for developing and executing strategies, processes, and frameworks to integrate and analyze diverse data sets, including structured and unstructured data. This role will involve managing everyday functional activities, directing teams assigned to projects, and overseeing implementations to ensure that resources are allocated accurately and represented properly. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data science, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to communicate complex ideas effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develops and executes strategies, processes, and frameworks to integrate and analyze diverse data sets, including structured and unstructured data.
  • Manages everyday functional activities, directs teams assigned to projects, and oversees implementations to ensure that resources are allocated accurately and represented properly.
  • Creates programming programs, algorithms, dashboards, data tools, and queries to clean, model, integrate, and evaluate datasets.
  • Stays up-to-date with new scientific techniques and technologies and applies them to drive business solutions and direction.
  • Collaborates with functional specialty units to drive business solutions and direction.
  • Establishes credibility with partners while managing expectations and ensures regular, consistent, and effective communications with colleagues and partners.
  • May develop a budget for the functional area and manages the budget to plan, ensuring that financial targets are met.
  • Allocates available resources to meet working targets and creates and mentors staff through on-boarding, open communication, training, and development opportunities and performance management processes.

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a quantitative, computational, or technical discipline.
  • Experience with analytical and statistical software like SQL, R, Python, Excel, Hadoop, SAS, SPSS, and others to perform analysis and interpret data.
  • In-depth knowledge of SQL and open-source data science and statistics packages like Python, R, Spark, etc.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining key relationships with internal (peers, colleagues, and leadership) and external (business community, clients, and vendors) partners to foster strategies that meet office objectives within budget and timelines.
  • At least 2 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.
  • At least 2 years of direct management, indirect leadership, and/or cross-functional team leadership.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:

  • Advanced degree in a quantitative, computational, or technical discipline.
  • Experience communicating at the executive level.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams.
