Principal Backend Engineer | Fully Remote | $200K | Full-Time

A rapidly growing tech company is looking for two Principal Backend Engineers to help drive the evolution of their backend infrastructure. This is a full-time role offering up to $200K with full remote flexibility. Ideal candidates must have recent startup experience (companies under 300 employees) and strong leadership skills, as they will be leading efforts to modernize backend systems. The role is 100% backend with a focus on Java, Spring Boot, document store databases (Firebase, MongoDB, etc.), and cloud infrastructure (Google Cloud Services, Linux, Docker, Snowflake). This is an exciting opportunity to own and lead the transition from Apache Mesos to a more modern infrastructure. Required Skills & Experience • 12+ years of backend development experience • Recent startup experience (companies <300 employees) • Strong expertise in Java and Spring Boot • Deep understanding of relational databases (schema design, complex queries, and aggregations) • Experience with document store databases (Firebase, MongoDB, etc.) • Expertise in Google Cloud Services and cloud infrastructure • Proficiency in Linux and Docker • Hands-on experience with Snowflake • Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead backend infrastructure revisions • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, agile environment Desired Skills & Experience • Previous experience working on highly scalable systems • Experience in Apache Mesos migrations • Strong asynchronous programming and multi-threading knowledge • Experience working closely with software architects What You Will Be Doing Tech Breakdown • 100% Backend (Java, Spring Boot, Firebase/MongoDB, Postgres, Snowflake) Daily Responsibilities • 80% Hands-on coding and development • 10% Architecture and design discussions • 10% Leadership and team collaboration The Offer • Salary: Up to $200K • Bonus OR Commission Eligible • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance • Vacation and PTO Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the US on a full-time basis now and in the future.
