Caring for Cats - Director of Operations and Development (Part-Time) Location: North St. Paul, MN Compensation: $28,500/year (1099 contractor, paid monthly) Schedule: Part-time, flexible hours, primarily remote (no-onsite office) About Caring for Cats: Caring for Cats is a no-kill, volunteer-driven, non-profit cat shelter located in North St. Paul, MN. For 26 years, we’ve provided a safe, homelike environment where cats can roam, play, and receive the love and care they deserve while they wait to find their forever families. Our bright and welcoming shelter is cat-centric in every way—every adoptable feline lives onsite and enjoys daily enrichment, socialization, and attention from our dedicated team of volunteers. About the Role: We are seeking a strategic, mission-driven, and highly adaptable leader to serve as our part-time Director of Operations and Development. This key role supports both internal operations and external engagement, playing a vital part in advancing the shelter’s mission and long-term sustainability. While the majority of responsibilities can be performed remotely, occasional onsite presence is essential for team engagement, relationship building, and operational oversight. This is a part-time, 1099 contract position paying $28,500 annually, distributed monthly. The role does not include an onsite office. Key Responsibilities: • Promote a collaborative, respectful culture and help resolve conflicts when needed. • Oversee the Operations Leadership Team to ensure smooth daily operations. • Provide oversight of all operational activities, including preventative maintenance, inspections, licensing, audits, and annual state and federal reporting (e.g., 990s). • Lead donor engagement efforts including acknowledgments, donor communications, and database management. • Develop, manage, and implement fundraising campaigns and appeals, including securing matches and setting campaign goals. • Build and maintain community partnerships and outreach opportunities. • Draft and manage the annual shelter budget; ensure responsible financial practices. • Lead the communications team and manage incoming email inquiries. • Maintain and update the organization’s website (WordPress). • Support volunteer recruitment and engagement. • Troubleshoot donor database and minor technical issues as needed. Ensure records are properly maintained. • Assist with purchasing, as needed. Ideal Candidate Will Have: • Experience in nonprofit leadership, fundraising, or operations (animal welfare experience a plus). • Experience managing or coordinating volunteers. • Strong communication, problem-solving, organizational, and interpersonal skills. • A passion for animal welfare and mission-driven service. • Familiarity with cat behavior and basic feline healthcare. • Proficiency with donor databases, website content management systems, and project coordination.
