Student Account Assistant
About the position
The Student Account Assistant plays a crucial role in the Student Financial Services team at the University of Michigan, serving as the initial contact for student financial account inquiries. This position involves handling inquiries from students, parents, and university departments regarding student account activities, ensuring accuracy in account management, and providing high-quality customer service. The role requires a blend of clerical skills and the ability to work independently in a team environment, with a focus on maintaining a positive work atmosphere.
- Responsibilities
- Answer inquiries and requests received by phone and e-mail from students, parents, or University departments concerning student account activity. ,
- Review student accounts for accuracy and initiate corrections. ,
- Post and reconcile wire and check payments for executive education programs. ,
- Review current term error list for Graduate Student Assistant Tuition Waivers and process corrections. ,
- Review and adjust prior term waivers as requested by students and University departments. ,
- Review accounts to be collected and update online collection list to create system-generated dunning notices. ,
- Determine whether to send accounts to Student Loan Collections for further collection efforts or initiate account write-off. ,
- Review monthly past-due participant payment plans and cancel delinquent plans. ,
- Advise students or parents on payment plan budgets and policies. ,
- Research and process approved student account refunds. ,
- Review and respond to requests for late payment fee reversals and process late payment fee if appropriate. ,
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
- Requirements
- Completed high school education; college degree recommended. ,
- One or more years of clerical experience in a business office or University setting. ,
- Passion for high-quality customer service. ,
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to a positive work environment and work independently in a team setting. ,
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks with varied deadlines. ,
- Ability to correspond appropriately with a variety of individuals from diverse backgrounds. ,
- Ability to handle difficult conversations. ,
- Working knowledge of PCs and desktop software and Google.
