Job description: The Associate Director of Social Media is a professional position reporting to the Executive Director, Content Strategy. The position is responsible for managing key communications and marketing initiatives on the university's flagship social media platforms. The AD of Social Media implements digital strategy, content, content updates, content optimization, and develops and maintains success measures across top-level university social channels. The position will be responsible for managing, protecting, and coordinating Tulane's reputation and brand across digital platforms, in coordination with other teams in University Communications and Marketing at the university, as well as advising other University departments with their social and digital media and content needs. This position will manage the creation and production of digital and online content for University Communications and Marketing and with the Executive Director lead the development and production of all social communication pieces. The position will also monitor social media for issues that could impact the university, and make recommendations for policy and strategy adoption across all online platforms. The position will manage and lead student social media ambassadors in content creation. They will work closely with videographers, photographers, and other team members on social media content and strategy.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Excellent knowledge of all social media channels including Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, and emerging platforms.
- Excellent knowledge of social media management and scheduling platforms.
- Excellent experience in digital content creation.
- Excellent experience in the creation and editing of video content for digital use.
- Proficiency in setting KPIs and developing success measures through web and social analytics reporting.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, PhotoShop, Premiere).
- Strong computer skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the ability to learn software programs with ease.
- Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize and manage projects, and meet established deadlines.
- Ability to interact professionally with individuals of an array of backgrounds externally and internally, at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion.
- Ability to work in a team structure and environment.
- Ability to take on responsibilities outside of the job description.
- Demonstrated analytical and time management skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability and willingness to work on weekends and evenings, as required or requested.
- Bachelor's Degree.
- 7-10 years of experience in marketing and communications of which 5 years are in direct strategic and operations management capabilities.
