In this vital role as a senior member of the Automation Engineering team, you will support process automation initiatives that require understanding of analytical problem-solving techniques, project management, lifecycle management and Operational Excellence. Additionally, the person will be accountable for providing project leadership and daily operational support to the Automation Engineering team at the Amgen Rhode Island siteAmgen is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer, internally known as a Sr. Manufacturing Systems Engineer, in our pioneering Rhode Island facility to join the Automation Engineering team within the Facilities & Engineering department and who will work with the Associate Director of Automation. We are seeking a person with a strong background in DeltaV batch implementation in a biotech environment.Key Responsibilities include:Leads and supports capital project planning and executionFacilitates the application of automation engineering principles in the design, specification, construction, startup, and validation of GMP process and utilities equipment and systems for capital projects of scope and complexityLeads and supports technical root cause analysis, incident investigations, and trouble shooting on process control issues related to electrical, instrumentation and control systemsLeads and supports new product introductions or new technology introductions by performing engineering assessments, implementing automation system configuration changes and supporting engineering runsDevises new solutions to problems through adaptations and modifications of standard automation technical principlesWorks closely with multiple subject areas, including manufacturing, process engineering, utility operations, maintenance, quality assurance, and validation to manage a diverse portfolio of projectsProvides technical support to commercial and clinical manufacturing as neededDevelops and implements critical initiatives for long-range planning and lifecycle upgrades of various Automation platforms with activities including managing a 5-year roadmap of systems, presenting high level scope and cost estimates to executives for annual capital funding plan, and project management of initiatives once approvedProvides mentorship to Automation Engineering team in daily operationsCommunicates with multiple levels within the organization, highlighting issues and proposing solutionsProvides technical support and issue resolution 24x7 on-call support of Automation systems on a rotational based frequencyApplies experience and knowledge of industry standard processes and tools to attain an innovative organizationWhat we expect of youWe are all different, yet we all use our unique contributions to serve patients. The automation engineering professional we seek is a dedicated teammate with these qualifications.Basic Qualifications:High school diploma / GED and 10 years of automation and/or engineering experience ORAssociate’s degree and 8 years of automation and/or engineering experience ORBachelor’s degree and 4 years of automation and/or engineering experience ORMaster’s degree and 2 years of automation and/or engineering experience ORDoctorate degreePreferred Qualifications:Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Chemical or Electrical Engineering or related technical field5+ years’ experience in Process Automation Engineering in a manufacturing support environment with at least 3+ years experience in the Pharmaceutical or Biotechnology industries5+ years’ combined experience with the following product platforms: Emerson DeltaV DCS systemsProgramming expertise with SCADA, PLC, HMI, and web based applicationsFamiliarity with industry standards for batch control systems, SDLC methodologies, S88, 21 CFR Part 11, Validation, and GAMPStrong control system automation background.
