The S&I team is primarily responsible for HSD's systems, infrastructure and initiatives including the development, management of, and training on HSD's information systems (e.g., eIRB system, website, Sharepoint site), content (e.g., policies, guidance, instructions), business analytics and reporting. These systems and initiatives in turn support HSD staff, the Institutional Review Boards (IRBs), and UW researchers in complying with federal, state, and institutional policies regarding human subjects research. This is essential for HSD's mission of protecting the safety, rights, and welfare of UW human research participants. The primary responsibility of the IEM is to work collaboratively with the HSD leadership team, HSD's cross operational group, and other members of S&I to:(1) identify and prioritize needs, issues, improvements, and enhancements to HSD content

(2) develop and deliver training on new and revised HSD content

(3) manage HSD's website, document libraries, and communications.The focus of the work and deliverables will vary depending on HSD's needs and annual goals. The IEM may also be called upon to support the HSD leadership team in preparing for and managing audits from regulatory agencies.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESHSD overall information and education program - 60%


  • Identify and assess HSD information gaps and training needs in collaboration with HSD leadership. This may involve conducting surveys, interviews, focus groups, and soliciting input from target audiences, stakeholders and/or interested parties.



  • Create curriculums, content, tools and resources to support and facilitate HSD's policy needs and training and educational goals. This may require independent research as needed such as reviewing relevant literature, interpreting national regulations, finding guidance from national agencies or contacting offices similar to HSD at other large U.S. research institutions.



  • Obtain input and feedback, using judgment and priorities to determine whether and how to incorporate it.



  • Identify and manage the impact of new and revised materials on other content, the HSD and Office of Research websites, the eIRB system, and processes.



  • Identify any needs for communication, education and training, and change management.



  • Maintain records of HSD staff participation in training and development activities.

Website and Communication Management - 15%


  • Manage a portion of the HSD website, including developing and updating content, and properly archiving any changes.



  • Plan, coordinate, design, and send out HSD's monthly electronic newsletter, including soliciting content and managing the audience list.



  • Coordinate HSD staff meetings using remote technologies to help facilitate training and communications within HSD.

Learning and content systems management - 10%


  • Independently propose, develop/adapt, and manage strategies, technology, and system management to optimize and expand HSD training programs.



  • Manage a portion of HSDs SharePoint-based Document Library system for materials creation, revision, and access.



  • Develop, implement, and manage an HSD system for creation of e-learning content (e.g., online tutorials) as needed.

Management of eIRB software learning program support - 10%


  • As needed, strategize, plan, manage, and implement the continued development, enhancement, and delivery of a comprehensive learning program for HSD's eIRB software and processes. Audiences include researchers (faculty and students) and their staff, HSD staff, IRB members, and staff in other research compliance offices.



  • Includes in-person delivery to some small group audiences of HSD staff and IRB members, user testing, and development of alternative delivery methods for other audiences.



  • Assist with minor eIRB software administration responsibilities, such as requests to add new accounts, contacts, and funding.

Cross-unit and other campus initiatives - 5%


  • Work collaboratively with other UW compliance offices in situations where the HSD initiatives intersect with the work of other UW compliance offices.



  • Serve as a liaison in Office of Research cross-unit groups as assigned.

o Representing HSD interests and needs.

o Shaping decisions and initiatives to enhance HSD's program.

o Obtaining knowledge, skills, resources useful to HSD's program.

  • Seek out and participate in other campus or local e-learning or adult learning groups, for the purpose of identifying resources, best practices, knowledge, and skills that may be useful for the HSD training program.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS


  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, education or related field, or in a scientific or scholarly research field.



  • A minimum of four years relevant applicable work or education experience that provided familiarity with research ethics and methodologies.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS


  • A minimum of two years relevant applicable work or education in any of the following:

o Human subjects research review or oversight

o Interaction with human subjects as a research staff person

o Any position involving the application of complex regulatory systems to individuals and work activities.

  • Almost all duties require extensive reading or viewing of content on multiple screens.

  • Highly organized at prioritizing and managing time effectively in the context of shifting priorities and circumstances.



  • Willingness to seek out diverse perspectives and appropriately adapt and incorporate feedback based on others' insights.



  • Computer proficiency including MS PowerPoint, Word, Excel, internet browsers, email, and comfort learning new systems.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT


  • Individuals may work at the HSD office on the UW Seattle campus, 100% remotely, or a combination (hybrid). The HSD office is a standard open-plan office environment located in the UW Tower, a high-rise office building on the edge of the UW Seattle campus.



  • Work schedule and location flexibility is available and encouraged, within the boundaries of HSD policy.



  • Meetings and in-person presentations may occasionally occur at some locations away from the UW Seattle campus such as Harborview, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, South Lake Union, the UW Bothell campus, and the UW Tacoma campus.



  • Individuals must provide their own transportation to/from their official residence and their official duty station(s). The UW does provide:

o Frequent free UW shuttles to some (but not all) Seattle locations.

o Free U-PASS that gives an employee unlimited rides on Western WA regional buses, commuter trains, light rail and water taxis as well as full fare coverage on vanpools.
