These skills are essential for individual and organizational success. ;Department BackgroundThe Department of Animal Science offers undergraduate and graduate programs on the biology and management of food, laboratory and companion animal species. Our research programs advance our understanding of animal biology and address local and global issues facing animal industries today. Our goals are to discover and develop new techniques and information to benefit animals, agriculture and human health. Our internationally recognized faculty have diverse interests in animal management, breeding, genetics, physiology, nutrition, growth biology and microbiology.Supervise the operation of the teaching lab facility. Develop new labs and revise old labs to support four major Animal Nutrition and Physiology undergraduate courses in the Fall and Spring involving approximately 200-300 students. Teach and supervise students in one or more sections for each course. Assist faculty in planning and teaching as well as the preparation of lab material and equipment. Supervise graduate student Teaching Assistants assigned to large, introductory laboratory courses in the Animal Science curriculum. Demonstrate the ability to express thoughts clearly to develop educational activities. Evaluate student lab reports and exams; assist with grading and evaluating oral reports. Organize and prepare laboratories. Ensure department compliance with regulations on storage, labeling, handling, and proper waste management. Obtain and properly dispose of animal organs and tissues and care for laboratory animals. Assist with teaching techniques to students, assisting students with data summary and analysis. Develop and conduct outreach programs for area high school biology teachers and students. - Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Animal Science, Biological Science or related field; 2 to 4 years of experience or equivalent.
- Computer literacy required. Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, internet access, data manipulation and analysis.
- Experience maintaining lab equipment.
- Demonstrate ability to develop effective working relationships with a wide variety of students, faculty, and staff.
- Must be personable, flexible, possess excellent organizational and communication skills and take pride in their work.
- Must exercise sound and ethical judgment when acting on behalf of the University.
- Must be able to adapt to changing priorities, situations and demands. Possess the ability to multi-task while meeting priorities. Show initiative to anticipate needs and act.
- Comfortable with public speaking to a large audience.
- Experience working directly with people from various socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Master's degree in Animal Science or related field desirable.
- Laboratory coursework in chemistry/biochemistry, biology, or related field.
Expected salary: $62035 - 67938 per year
