About the DepartmentThe Physics Department provides: (1) High quality Physics instruction to the University community through courses in introductory physics; (2) educational opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students in physics through high quality curricula, faculty, and research facilities; (3) outreach programs that advance scientific knowledge. Our research programs cover a diverse spectrum including astrophysics, general relativity, condensed matter theory and experiment, computational physics, biophysics, nanoscale science, physics education, experimental nuclear physics, particle and nuclear theory, experimental optics, experimental atomic and molecular physics. The department enrolls approximately 120 graduate students and 140 undergrad physics majors. The department size is approximately 57 faculty members. Essential Job DutiesThis will be a tenure-track faculty position to teach physics courses and perform research. Direct an internationally recognized and funded program of research in experimental nuclear physics broadly relevant to research being performed at the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB). Advise and direct undergraduate students, graduate students, and post-doctoral research associates in research leading to peer-reviewed publications. Teach undergraduate and graduate classes at the standard departmental teaching load for research active faculty. Provide service to the Department and/or the University through membership on standing committees.This position is part of a joint appointment with 50% salary support from Michigan State University (MSU) through its Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB). The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the FRIB Experiment Bridge Initiative until the candidate receives tenure.

  • Requires doctor's degree, an equivalent degree, or equivalent professional experience.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Research experience in experimental nuclear physics broadly relevant to research being performed at the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefer 2+ years of post-doctoral or equivalent experience performing research in nuclear physics.

  • Experience in teaching at the college level.
