For Full Time EmployeesHIRING SALARY RANGE: $19.72 - $23.66 per hourFor the most current salary schedules, please visitThis position is for a Special Education Paraprofessional with a work schedule of Monday-Friday 8:30-4:00.This position would be a blend of supporting students in general education classes and working directly with students in resource classes. You'd be joining a highly skilled team who could provide guidance to those candidates new to working with students with specific needs.SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential elements of teaching Special Education students (including preschool, Second Language Acquisition (SLA) students, district programs, and/or students in the general education classroom) satisfactorily under the supervision of a special education teacher. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.   • Provide support in general education settings in order for students to fully participate in class activities with peers. Assist special education students by delivering academic instruction within special education and general education settings. Assist teachers in adapting the curriculum to students’ individual learning level. May assist with administering testing or assessments, may assist with assignments. May provide vocational skills by modeling and assisting students with domestic and clerical duties.
  • Assist instructor with related paperwork. Implement specialized therapy programs; work directly with therapists on progress and Individualized Education Plans (IEP).
  • Assist special needs students in performing daily routines, including getting to and from class and bus stops, using toilets, diapering, feeding, medical needs and personal hygiene, including working with trach, feeding tubes, and catheterization. Support behavior intervention plan implementation. Utilize Safety Care techniques and safety monitoring (when trained).
  • Assists students with classroom activities. Implements the teacher's instruction plan. Performs tutoring, both individually and with small groups to ensure mastering of subjects.
  • Clean rooms after projects, play and at end of day, wash dishes, do laundry and arrange furniture for following day
  • Facilitate and encourage speech and language development through the use of alternate communication systems such as sign language or voice activated computer systems.
  • Assist instructors with preparation of classroom materials.
  • Assists with special projects. May administer first aide and/or assist students to clinic or nurse.
  • Act as a substitute teacher in emergency situations.
  • Supervise students in the classroom, on the playground, and/or in the lunchroom.
  • Maintain a daily record of student behavior. Provide observations, opinions and feedback to professional staff.
  • Perform other clerical duties such as typing, filing, copying, answering phones, ordering supplies, and maintaining inventory of forms and supplies.
  • Use instructional equipment, including computers and audiovisual and adaptive equipment.
  • Attend staff, team meetings and parent conferences when appropriate.
  • Assist in the communication between the school and parents (including home visits when accompanied by supervisor) by acting as an interpreter or translator, if allotted appropriate time in duty day.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Preferred 2 years previous successful experience with children as a Teacher Assistant or equivalent, including 1 year experience with Second Language Acquisition students for bilingual applicants.
  • Clerical skills appropriate to duties of position.
  • Valid community First Aid and CPR card (or acquire within 6 months of hire).
  • Bilingual applicants must demonstrate proficiency in Spanish and English as determined by District assessment.
  • Bilingual applicants must have training in Second Language Acquisition or instruction or begin training within 6 months of hire.
  • Training required to meet accreditation standards.
  • Small Vehicle Operator permit if required.
  • Group Leader qualified by Department of Social Service if applicable.
  • TB test and physical exam (acquired within 6 weeks of employment), if applicable.
  • Must be highly qualified according to No Child Left Behind Act


Expected salary: $19.72 - 23.66 per hour
