Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Data Analyst / Business Analyst (Mid-Level) with prior insurance experience to join our Data Engineering team. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing and implementing data-driven solutions that optimize policy administration, underwriting accuracy, risk management, and customer engagement. This position requires a deep understanding of the insurance industry, including personal, commercial, and surplus lines, as well as the ability to collaborate with both business and technical teams to deliver high-quality solutions.

Responsibilities

Business & Technical Requirements Documentation: Work closely with internal teams and clients in the insurance industry to gather, document, and analyze business requirements related to policy management, underwriting, risk assessment, and customer engagement.

Data Solutions & Implementation: Develop and document data solutions to solve business problems in insurance, ensuring technical specifications are clear and actionable for development and engineering teams.

Collaboration with Technical Teams: Coordinate with data engineers, developers, and technical teams to design and implement solutions that improve policy administration, underwriting accuracy, and risk management for insurance providers.

Production Support & Issue Resolution: Provide support for production issues, working with cross-functional teams to diagnose and resolve data and application performance issues in a timely manner.

Process Improvement: Assess current business processes, recommending and implementing improvements to enhance workflows and align with industry best practices in insurance operations.

Documentation & Communication: Produce detailed documentation to communicate technical and business requirements, ensuring alignment across teams and successful solution implementation.

Project Management Support: Assist in managing project timelines, resources, and deliverables, ensuring that projects are completed on time and meet business goals.

Qualifications

Prior Insurance Industry Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working in the insurance industry. Familiarity with personal, commercial, or surplus lines insurance is highly preferred.

Technical Proficiency: Strong experience with SQL and familiarity with database management systems (e.g., DB2, SQL Server). Knowledge of scripting languages is a plus.

Data & Reporting Tools: Experience with business intelligence and reporting tools (e.g., PowerBI) to create and interpret complex data visualizations, reports, and dashboards.

· Methodology Knowledge: Familiarity with SDLC, Agile, and Kanban methodologies. Experience with tools like JIRA, Confluence, or similar platforms is an advantage.

· Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical abilities to identify business problems in the insurance domain and provide data-driven solutions.

· Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Effective communication skills with the ability to work closely with both technical and business stakeholders, including insurance clients and cross-functional teams.

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Business, Data Science, Insurance, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).

3-5 years of experience as a Data Analyst, Business Analyst, or similar role within the insurance industry, focusing on insurance operations, policy administration, or underwriting.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in SQL and related database tools; experience with business intelligence platforms (e.g., Cognos, Tableau) is preferred.

Agile Experience: Familiarity with Agile methodologies and project management tools like JIRA is a plus.
