Job title: PT Associate Faculty - English - Online Instructor Company: Cochise College Job description : Position Summary Position Summary: The Associate Faculty of English is responsible for providing an invaluable service to the College and our students by providing instruction of developmental and college-level English courses for majors and non-majors district-wide. Instruction is provided via a variety of media, including face-to-face courses, blended learning, and online throughout Cochise County and our entire services area. Essential Functions: As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. Compensation: $834 per equated credit unit Marketing Statement: Cochise College serves the residents of Cochise County from two campuses and four centers throughout Southern Arizona with panoramic views of five different mountain ranges. The college has been recognized nationally for its cost, return on investment, and high success rate; providing over 90 general and technical education programs leading to a variety of workforce certificates and associate degrees. The college is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a designated Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI). Duties and Responsibilities Duties and Responsibilities: Within the scope of college policies and procedures, this position: Teaches assigned courses to enrolled students and manages a diverse population of students in a classroom, laboratory, or in an online environment Develops, prepares and implements lesson plans; conducts pre- and post-assessment of students; evaluates, assesses and plans for students' educational and social needs Completes all college and department reports on or before the due date/time Responds to communications from students and colleagues within 48 hours Collaborates with other faculty and staff in assessment of teaching strategies and the effectiveness of the instructional program to help promote a culture of continuous improvement Maintains student records, statistics, and/or other pertinent information as required by the college and the department Resolves issues relevant to area of responsibility and scope of authority, referring more difficult or complex problems to the appropriate Department Chair, Dean, or other College official Performs other related duties as assigned General Expectations: Employees are expected to accomplish assigned duties in an efficient, effective and competent manner and to strive for improvement and excellence in all work performed. Additionally, employees must understand the comprehensive role of the community college and cooperate and work harmoniously with students, faculty and staff, and the public. Employees will follow all college policies, rules, regulations and guidelines as they relate to this position. Education and Experience; Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Education and Experience Requirements: Master's degree in English, Linguistics, Creative Writing or Composition or Master's Degree and 18 graduate hours in English or Composition from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of and ability to follow college policies and procedures Knowledge of current technologies and word processing, database, presentation, and spreadsheet software, specifically Microsoft Office applications and Learning Management Systems Knowledge of research-based adult learning principles Knowledge of trends, developments, and new technologies affecting education Knowledge of developing, implementing, and evaluating curriculum and instructional approaches Skill in using authentic assessment to evaluate students' needs and progress Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and to relate to others in a professional, helpful manner Ability to relate to a diverse population and to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations Ability to organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion with an attention to detail Ability to work independently while contributing to team environment Ability to effectively identify and and analyze problems, identify solutions, and take appropriate actions to resolve using independent judgment and decision-making processes while maintaining strict confidentiality related to sensitive information Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other department staff, faculty, students, and the public Work Environment & Physical Requirements Work Environment: Work is primarily performed under limited supervision in a typical classroom, laboratory, office, or online setting, with appropriate climate controls. Evening or weekend work may be required. Physical Requirements: Essential functions of this position require: lifting, manual dexterity, ability to communicate. May require travel, working evenings and weekends. Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body; involves sitting majority of time; walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met Mental Application: Utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, critical thinking, adaptability and creative problem solving skills are important Reports to: Dean of Liberal Arts Expected salary : Location : Sierra Vista, AZ Apply Job!
